𝗡𝗢𝗧. 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧. 𝗕𝗔𝗕𝗬𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦.

I am so proud to share that I’ve been quoted in 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 on Family Day Care, and honestly, it says out loud what so many of us have been saying for years.

Professor Andrea Nolan and her team surveyed 200 FDC educators across metro, regional and remote Australia. Here’s what they found:

𝟴𝟮% 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿.
We work under the 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗡𝗤𝗙, 𝗘𝗬𝗟𝗙 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗤𝗦 as everyone else.
Yet we’re still being treated as the “𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿” 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

And the numbers should stop everyone in their tracks.

📉 In 2016, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟭𝟴𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 were enrolled in FDC. By 2024, it was 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟱𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝘀. In many regional and remote communities, 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗡𝗟𝗬 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

What I told the researchers, and what I’ll keep saying to anyone who will listen:

𝗙𝗗𝗖 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 who deserve 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, not just goodwill.

Give us even a fraction of the investment the rest of the sector gets, and 𝗙𝗗𝗖 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 for families right across the country.

This research is a gift to our sector. 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.

What if some of the things that keep showing up in your life are simply blocks you haven’t moved through yet?

“𝑰 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒈𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒕𝒚 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒐…”

Sound familiar? 💛

For so many Family Day Care educators, 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 can come with an enormous amount of guilt.

It might be setting boundaries with families, having a difficult conversation, saying no to something you don’t want to provide, discussing fees, or even setting boundaries with the children in your care.

And sometimes, it’s not the boundary itself that’s difficult. It’s 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭.

In this week’s episode of the 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭, I’m joined by PSYCH-K® facilitator Gemma Honeyball to explore the subconscious beliefs and patterns that may be sitting underneath feelings like guilt and people-pleasing.

Children can only thrive when the adults around them are supported too, and that's exactly what happened at Dream Lead Play 2026.

A room full of Family Day Care leaders and educators, showing up for each other, sharing things they'd never normally say out loud, and walking away with people they can genuinely call on.

This is why I do this work.

This conference was birthed to primarily support then, but somehow became so much bigger.

Day two of Dream Lead Play 2026 and my heart is still so full. 💛

Every speaker on Educators Day was chosen so intentionally, for exactly what they could add to a Family Day Care business.

The gorgeous Emma Rattenbury took us through programming and documentation, and how to reframe it into something that actually works for you.

Nicole gave us the most incredible examples, videos and real scenarios on play, and how educators can deeply connect with children by letting them lead, rather than leading them.

Maree showed us how to tell families what they need to hear, in a way that stays true to your own values and strengths, so you attract families who are genuinely aligned with you, with a documented process to back it up.

And Sammi Jaeger reminded every single one of us how important it is to fuel your own tank first, and took us on that journey of rediscovering ourselves.

Each speaker touched on something unique, and it spoke so beautifully to every educator in that room.

Honestly, the energy was electric. Watching people who'd only ever known each other online finally meet and connect in person was one of my favourite parts of the whole day. And don't even get me started on the food. Absolutely outstanding.

Day one of Dream Lead Play 2026 was every bit as incredible as I hoped it would be. 🌟
We had four absolutely wonderful speakers share their stories with our Leaders Day group, and every single one of them was so relevant to service providers and leaders in Family Day Care.

Because it was such an intimate group, so much was shared that probably wouldn't have come out in a bigger, more anonymous room. The honesty in that room was next level.

Everyone who attended walked away with incredible takeaways, but more than that, they walked away as friends. As colleagues. As people they can now call on when things get tough, so they never have to feel alone in this profession again.

Here's just a little snippet of how day one went!

I really hope you'll put next year in your calendar. Dream Lead Play 2027 is happening in the first week of June 2027, and I cannot wait to see you there.
