We recently restored the east, west and south elevations of this 120-year-old Malvern East weatherboard home, retaining as much of the original character as possible.
Works included:
- Isolated weatherboard replacement
- Insulation upgrade
- Fascia and plinth repairs
- Period timber moulding repairs/replacement
- Full paint preparation and repainting
- Roof restoration, including replacement of a rotted hip rafter
The north side will be incorporated into a future renovation/extension.

Weatherboard Wednesday

Buckled metal weatherboards, an uneven frame and no wall insulation — this Port Melbourne home needed more than a cosmetic repair.

For this week’s Weatherboard Wednesday, we’re showcasing a complete cladding transformation in Port Melbourne.

The home had rolled-form metal weatherboards that had buckled across the elevation. After removing the existing cladding, we found the original wall frame also needed to be straightened before the new system could be installed properly.

Our team:

Removed the existing metal weatherboards
Reframed and straightened the wall
Installed R2.5 wall batt insulation
Installed a vapour barrier
Reclad the elevation with Innova Nuline fibre-cement weatherboards
Coordinated the completed exterior paint finish

The result is a straighter, better-insulated wall with a durable weatherboard finish that suits the character of the home.

This Northcote homeowner contacted us about deteriorating weatherboards along the south elevation of their home. With the wall built close to the boundary, access required more than simply removing and replacing the boards.

Our team:

✓ Temporarily removed sections of the boundary fence
✓ Fully stripped the existing weatherboards
✓ Installed Enviroseal vapour barrier
✓ Installed Innova Nuline fibre-cement weatherboards
✓ Completed the painting behind the fence before reinstating it
✓ Coordinated the remaining exterior painting the following day

The entire weatherboard replacement in Northcote was completed in three days, including the cladding, painting and fence reinstatement.

From outdated asbestos cladding to a fully upgraded backyard transformation in Glen Iris.

The existing backyard elevations were clad in asbestos sheeting and had no wall insulation. Before any new work could begin, we coordinated the safe removal of the asbestos by a licensed professional.

Once the walls were cleared, our team:

installed new wall insulation
fitted a vapour-permeable wall wrap
reclad the elevations with James Hardie Linea fibre-cement weatherboards
installed a new sliding door
replaced the kitchen window
created a timber shelf-style sill beneath the kitchen window
built a new spotted gum deck, stairs and balustrade

The result is a much cleaner, more functional outdoor area with improved insulation, durable new cladding and far better access between the home and backyard.

This Glen Iris project is a strong example of how cladding replacement can be combined with practical exterior upgrades to completely change how a home looks and functions.
