No happy friday today. 🥺

We are deeply saddened to share the news that Bob Bramley, who featured on Australian Story in 2021 for his record-breaking solo flight, has died, aged 24.

The Tasmanian teenager was just 16 when he took to the skies in an attempt to be the youngest person to circumnavigate Australia by aircraft. And he did it, raising awareness of youth mental health and su***de prevention along the way.

Fast-forward, and Bob was living out his dream as a pilot working for a charter company in the Northern Territory. On Tuesday morning his plane went down in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The accident was announced by his loved ones on the fundraiser page 'Surviving Turbulence'.

“There are no words, deeds or silver linings that make this any easier, but our beloved Bob is gone,” the post reads.

“We are shocked, we are heartbroken, but we remember the ideals that Bob championed.

“Bob was a courageous individual, who inspired those around him with his infectious enthusiasm. He was a dreamer, who never let fear, problems or pessimists stop him from reaching his goals. But most importantly, he was dedicated to helping people get through dark times and dream as big as he did.”

It's not all b**r and skittles here at Bill Burford Detailed Joinery. There are some jobs that come my way simply because no-else wants to do it, and this is a classic example; finishing off window trims that should've been done with the original renovation, many years ago. Perseverance and a capable workshop came through for a successful outcome, ready for painting. If only things were done properly in the first place 🤔 Happy friday!

A few pics of the recently completed Tasmanian Oak staircase, encapsuled with the continuous handrailing and dividing blade wall. A wonderful space above and below; a true transformation of this once awkward space.

Happy friday! ( I know, it's a few hours early 🤦🏻‍♂️)

Nice to round-off the week by completing this Stringybark beauty. The mission; to make getting up and down the staircase easier than the previous existing spiral staircase and improve the general flow, ready for a new addition to the family in the coming days.
Happy friday from my end!

Very happy to finally deliver JDR Homes new Blackwood boardroom table. The pictures don't do it justice, the level of clear finishing from Darren Creedon, the blackwood from Britton Timbers, or the sheer size of it; 3400 x 1480!
Happy friday, er, eve!

New tool day!!! A quick trip across the Strait to pick us this beauty. Those of you who know me well know my disdain of new technology, but this, when produced in 1880 would've been a game changer.

I first saw one of these a couple of years ago during a family trip to the Sovereign Hill goldfields. There was a working example in their Forgotten trades workshop and I was amazed at how well it worked, the only power-assist was leverage!

The previous owners of this particular item were the Rodgers family; the original contractors responsible for the Flinders st Station construction. This tool would've (possibly) been involved with the manufacture of many of the Station's windows and doors, and many other stand-out projects across Victoria.

After reassembly and then conducting my first mortice yesterday, I had the biggest smile in town!

I feel very privileged to have this in my workshop, for it once again to be involved in the production of timeless timber joinery for future generations to enjoy!

Happiest of fridays to you all! 😊
