At MC Civil Contractors, we know that looking after our people goes beyond getting the job done safely and efficiently.
Our workplaces can be busy, demanding and sometimes high-pressure. Whether you’re on site, behind the wheel, in the workshop or working in the office, everyone has their own challenges outside of work that we may not always see.
That’s why today, we’re reminding everyone to ask the question: “R U OK?”
💬 Ask — Start the conversation. If someone doesn’t seem like themselves, take a moment to check in.
👂 Listen — Give them your time and your attention. You don’t need to have all the answers or solve their problems. Sometimes, simply being heard can make a difference.
🤝 Encourage — If someone is struggling, encourage them to connect with the people and support that can help them.
🔄 Check in — Don’t let the conversation end there. A follow-up message, phone call or quick chat can show someone that you genuinely care.
In a workplace where we rely on each other to communicate, work safely and look out for one another, mental health is just as important as physical safety.
You might notice a change in a workmate’s mood, behaviour, attitude or routine. Maybe someone seems quieter than usual, isn’t themselves, or has simply had a tough few weeks. You don’t have to know exactly what’s wrong to ask.
A simple “How are you going?” can be the start of an important conversation.
And remember — R U OK? Day isn’t just about today. Checking in with the people around us should be part of our everyday workplace culture.
Take a few minutes today to check in with your workmates, your family and your friends. Because behind every job, every project and every task is a person, and every person matters. 💛
Ask the question. Listen without judgement. Let people know they’re not alone.
From everyone at MC Civil Contractors — R U OK? 💛
