A day that changed the world—and changed my life.

I was sitting in junior high school when we watched the events of September 11 unfold on the news. At that age, I don't think any of us truly understood what we were witnessing. I remember not knowing if we would even be going home that day, while some of my teachers worried about what might come next and whether they could be drafted into war.

Coming from a military family and growing up in a very patriotic state, September 11 didn't just remain something I watched on television.

In the days, weeks and years that followed, I watched friends and family members deploy to unknown places in the Middle East. Some never returned. Others came home carrying wounds that couldn't always be seen, changed forever by the experiences they endured.

My heart breaks for the 2,977 of innocent lives lost that day, but also for the lives that continued to be lost in the years following—including first responders and survivors affected by illnesses linked to the aftermath of the collapsing buildings.

September 11 is more than a moment in history to me. It is a reminder of how quickly life can change, of the sacrifices made by so many, and of the people who stepped forward when the world needed them most.

May we never forget. 🙏🇺🇸

And may we continue to respect, support and look after those who serve—and those who have already sacrificed so much.

🌳 Roundup circles drive me CRAZY! 🙄😒

A big ring of dead grass around a tree might be easy, but to me it just looks untidy, messy and… well, obviously dead!

So instead, I gave this tree a little love. 💚

🌱 Created a clean, defined circle
🌱 Drilled into the soil to help improve aeration
🌱 Added fresh compost-enriched soil
🌱 Finished with lucerne mulch to help feed and protect the soil
🌱 Clean edges to finish it off 👌

Clean edges. Healthy soil. Happy trees. Happy me! 😂

Because good garden care isn't just about making things look neat — it's about creating healthier soil and giving plants the best environment to thrive.

Christmas and candles are 2 things that make my heart happy... and when they release Christmas candles, I wish I could buy them all!

Give yourself the same kindness and grace that you give a friend. Too many of us are extra hard on ourselves. We hold our standards higher than you'd ask of someone else.... it's ok to just be yourself. Life is not guaranteed - surround yourself with things that bring you joy, peace and happiness 💙🐦

🌿 This is what 12 months of growth looks like 🌿

The brief for this garden was to create a space that was low maintenance, easy to care for, and inviting for birds and wildlife.

I designed the planting around hardy, low-maintenance species including Grevilleas, Leptospermum, Lilly Pillies and Myoporum, creating layers of foliage, flowers and habitat.

A self-watering bird bath was added as a central feature, providing a reliable water source for visiting birds.

These photos show the garden at planting and then approximately 12 months later. It's always amazing to see how a garden settles in once the plants establish and begin to fill the space.

What began as small individual plants surrounded by mulch has developed into a layered, established garden with texture, colour and habitat—all while staying true to the original brief of being easy to maintain. 🌸💙🐦

Sophie Thomson and Costa Georgiadis Official bring so much joy wherever they go. Both incredibly gifted, bursting with knowledge, and fuelled by an infectious passion for growing things and getting people excited about the natural world. 🌱🥦🌷🐝🦋🐦
