Council Approval Secured for New Stuart Highway Commercial Development.

We're excited to share that a new commercial development on Stuart Highway, Winnellie has recently received council approval.

Designed by Bennett Architecture for GlassTech Australia, the project will deliver six modern commercial tenancies in a striking two-storey development that makes a strong contribution to the streetscape. Extensive glazing and a distinctive double-glazed curtain wall façade have been carefully designed to reflect GlassTech's identity and create a strong architectural presence.

The development offers flexible tenancy sizes to accommodate a range of businesses, with convenient customer access at street level and dedicated staff parking below. Taking advantage of the site's natural slope, each tenancy will also enjoy southern views towards the harbour.

A collaborative effort between Bennett Architecture, GlassTech Australia, MDP Structural & Civil Engineers, Ashburner's, and Masterplan, the project showcases the value of integrated design and professional teamwork.

A special thank you to Anna Koulianos for her vision and ongoing collaboration, and to Sabella Fuss of Masterplan for expertly guiding the approval process.

Bennett Architecture are pleased to announce that we have been appointed to the Infrastructure Needs Assessment Panel established and coordinated by NACCHO, with support from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Bennett Architecture has a proud history bringing extensive health-sector experience to communities across the Northern Territory and wider Australia for over 25 years.

From remote renal clinics and community mental health facilities to major hospital refurbishments, our work is centred on people. We design welcoming, culturally responsive spaces that support wellbeing, dignity and connection to Country.

Our health projects focus on what matters most: accessible and intuitive spaces, natural light and ventilation, privacy, comfort and environments that feel less institutional.

Through this Panel, we look forward to supporting Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations with infrastructure planning, needs assessments and master planning services that assist communities to plan for future health service delivery needs.

BENNETT ARCHITECTURE is proud to celebrate the completion of nine new duplexes at Bunggulwuy, Northern Territory. This milestone reflects our longstanding commitment to designing and delivering high-quality projects across the remote Top End, with the Gove Peninsula and the Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation continuing to be valued partners throughout this journey.

Bunggulwuy represents one of the last remaining suburban freehold development areas at the base of the iconic Nhulunbuy Lookout. Designed to provide contemporary, efficient accommodation for staff and visitors, these duplexes offer a high standard of living while embracing the relaxed lifestyle and unique character of the remote Top End. Importantly, the development also contributes valuable economic benefits and ongoing opportunities for the local Aboriginal community.

Sustainability and climate-responsive design have been central to the project. Each duplex has been carefully oriented to maximise natural ventilation, solar shading and site aspects, delivering exceptional thermal performance in a tropical environment. The shared zones and duplex forms have been thoughtfully integrated into the streetscape, balancing privacy, community connection and cost-effective construction outcomes. The result is a development that is practical, durable and designed to serve the region for generations to come.

This project stands as a testament to the power of strong partnerships, thoughtful design and a shared vision for sustainable growth in remote Australia. We thank everyone involved in bringing the Bunggulwuy Duplexes to life.

Connecting Communities Through Essential Services

Bennett Architecture was proud to develop the concept design for the proposed Peppimenarti Council Community Hub, a project aimed at strengthening access to vital community services in the West Daly region.
The concept was designed to accommodate offices for Australia Post, Centrelink, West Daly Regional Council, along with additional tenant spaces, creating a central hub for community support and engagement.
A key objective of the project was to provide the West Daly Regional Council with a compelling design vision to support funding applications and gain approval for future development. The original concept included two separate buildings and a dedicated arts centre to foster Aboriginal art, education, and cultural activities. As the project evolved, the design was refined to focus on essential services, helping streamline the approval process and maximise funding opportunities.
We are proud to have contributed to a project that supports improved service delivery and long-term community outcomes for Peppimenarti.

"When people think about architecture, they often picture the finished building or the architect's initial sketches. What they don't often see is everything that happens in between and that's the part of the journey I genuinely enjoy.

As an Archicad Technician at Bennett Architecture, I get to take an concept and gradually shape it into a detailed 3D model and technical documentation that brings the design closer to reality. It's rewarding to watch an idea evolve from a simple sketch into something that contractors and consultants can confidently build from.

Over time, I've realised that my role is about much more than modelling. I've developed a real appreciation for the technical side of BIM—understanding how Archicad is structured, creating efficient workflows, managing information, and ensuring that the model works as intelligently as possible for everyone involved in the project.

I enjoy solving the challenges that happen behind the scenes. Every project teaches me something new about coordination, collaboration, and the technology that supports good design. It's a reminder that architecture isn't just about creating beautiful spaces, it's also about building the systems that make those spaces possible.

There's something incredibly satisfying about knowing that the countless technical decisions made throughout the process all contribute to turning a vision into a building that people will one day experience in real life."

If you’re early in your design career, the Northern Territory might be one of the best places in Australia to grow.

Working in the Territory asks more of you and teaches you faster.

For young architects, interior designers and landscape architects, it offers a rare mix of responsibility, variety and real-world learning. One month you might be working on a remote health clinic, the next a school, tourism project, civic building, workplace, community hub or landscape masterplan. You are not just focused on one small part of a larger project; you are often involved in understanding the place, the people, the climate and the practical decisions that make design work.

That breadth of experience is what makes the Territory such a powerful training ground. It challenges you to become more than a specialist. It helps you become a well-rounded designer.
At Bennett Architecture, our work across Northern Australia has shown us that good design here must respond deeply to climate, culture, community and Country. It is challenging, rewarding and never the same twice.

Neuro-inclusive spaces recognise that people experience the built environment in different ways. From an architectural design perspective, this means creating places that support sensory comfort, mental wellbeing, focus and choice,
not as an “add-on”, but as a core part of good design.
This can be achieved through thoughtful control of light, acoustics, colour, texture, spatial organisation and wayfinding. Quiet retreat areas, clear circulation paths, reduced visual clutter, natural materials, access to daylight and landscape, and spaces that allow people to choose between stimulation and calm can all help reduce stress and improve participation.
Effective examples can be seen in contemporary schools designed for students with autism, workplaces with sensory reset rooms and varied focus settings, healthcare environments with calming arrival sequences, and public buildings that use simple navigation, acoustic treatment and biophilic design to make spaces feel more predictable and welcoming.
Neuro-inclusive design benefits everyone. When architecture supports different sensory needs, it creates environments where more people can feel safe, calm, connected and able to thrive.

Bennett Architecture is proud to have contributed to the landscape upgrade of Damoe-Ra Park at the Darwin Waterfront, a place of deep cultural, historical and community significance.
Located below the escarpment near Parliament House, Damoe-Ra Park honours the contributions of Northern Territory women and holds special significance for Larrakia people. The name “Damoe-Ra”, gifted by Larrakia Elder Topsy Juwaning Secretary, means “eye” or “spring”, referencing a sacred water source on nearby Lameroo Beach. The revitalisation restored the park as a peaceful, inclusive green sanctuary, with improved landscaping, seating and pathways that support reflection, connection and community use.
For Bennett Architecture, this project reflects our commitment to designing with respect for Country, climate and community. By strengthening the park’s landscape setting, the upgrade helps preserve an important public place while supporting its ongoing role as a place of remembrance, cultural recognition and quiet enjoyment at Darwin’s waterfront. www.bennettarchitecture.com.au
