Time was short ~ 24 hours in Melaka❤️ and …Rather a lot of photographs of tiles😅But please , look at them.. Green glazes, floral details, patterned floors worn by years of use,Then there were the shutters, the doorways and that unexpected yellow window..What stayed with me was how confidently colour and pattern sat together, repeated colours gave the different designs a connection, something I’d consider when bringing pattern into a home.
These are absolutely the details I get excited about when I travel and visit different cultures and countries, so much to learn and take away from our glorious colourful cultures …And why my camera roll looks like this😂

Before Christian Dior wanted to dress women, he wanted to be an architect. And once you know that, his work makes perfect sense

❤️What a treat walking through La Galerie Dior in Paris 🇫🇷 and Look beyond the extraordinary gowns and you see architecture.
✨Line✨Form✨Proportion✨Structure✨Materiality✨Detail✨
Dior didn’t simply decorate the body. He constructed a silhouette.
I find the relationship between fashion and interiors so fascinating. Fashion tends to move faster, but the same shifts eventually appear in our spaces. Colour changes. Proportions change. Materials return. Craft becomes important again.
Our idea of luxury changes. Different disciplines, but so much of the design language is shared…The principles of good design don’t really belong to fashion, architecture or interiors, they belong to design. Spending time inside the world of Christian Dior was something else entirely! What a treat to share it with the company of 2 fabulous

🇫🇷Paris Design Week, what a treat you have been.

Paris, I’ve missed you. Your heartbeat, your culture, your creativity✨I’m leaving undeniably invigorated and inspired🤸🏻Until we meet again. 🇫🇷

I came to Paris looking for a Design Crime….Turns out, we might be the criminals. 🇫🇷

Paris has reminded me how good interiors can feel when they stop trying so hard to behave.
Old stone. Peeling plaster. Faded walls sitting happily beside something sharply contemporary. Pattern on pattern. Things clash. Things are worn. Things have history.
Nothing is desperately trying to match.
And that’s the lesson I’m taking home
Somewhere along the way, we became frightened of getting interiors “wrong.” So we coordinate, perfect and smooth away the oddness until sometimes we smooth away the personality with it.

Paris does the opposite.
It layers. It mixes. It lets age show. It leaves room for the unexpected.
And God, you want to touch everything.
France, you’re acquitted. Apparently, the rules are the problem.

🇫🇷 PARIS, YOU’VE LEFT ME HUNGRY🤩

The design tour and Paris Design Week flew by almost as quickly as this reel, but I’m leaving with an unmistakable hunger to create even more beauty for my clients and their homes.
A huge shout out to the indelible The Design Coach Australia for an incredible week, Private access into the homes of some of Paris’s celebrated interior designers, intimate studio sessions with exceptional fabric and furniture designers and suppliers, and conversations you simply don’t get from walking a trade fair
And then there were the people..✨🥂💕💃Karmic connections, new friendships, conversations, laughter and that wonderful exchange of ideas that happens when creative people come together✨I’ve looked, listened, touched, questioned and absorbed everything I possibly could.

🤸🏻My creative heart is full and overflowing ✨now comes the part I love most, taking all that inspiration, knowledge and creative energy home and translating it into something deeply personal for my clients.
🇫🇷 Not a copy of Paris, Their home, their story, seen through a slightly wider lens..Paris, you’ve given me plenty to bring home🙏🏼

🌴A 103 year old house just reminded me how clever tropical and sustainable architecture used to be!
🥹Some places you visit. Others stay with you. Today I had the privilege of visiting Sentosa Villa in Melaka, Malaysia a traditional Malay home more than 103 years old, and meeting Abraham, its 89 year old owner, who was born in this very house and generously showed me through his family home.
For me, this was tropical architecture at its most intelligent.

🏡 The house is elevated from the ground. A central courtyard sits at its heart, with rooms flowing from it. High rooflines, timber shutters and openings positioned to move air naturally through the house. The breeze was incredible, and there was barely a fan in sight.

Then there were the original materials. Beautiful timber floors worn by generations, old shutters, timber detailing and craftsmanship that has survived more than a century.

💥 What struck me most was how much of what we talk about today as good tropical design was simply understood here 100 years ago. Orientation, shade, ventilation, airflow and connection between spaces were fundamental to the architecture.

This is exactly why I wanted to spend time in Melaka. To look closely at how architecture evolved in response to heat and humidity, and what those lessons might offer us back home in tropical Australia. Most of all beyond the architecture, I will remember Abraham. Being personally shown through the home where he was born, listening to its history from someone who has lived it 🙏🏼

A very special few hours in Melaka, and one I won’t forget
