This week, we’re handing it over to YOU! 👇🏻

We’ve shared plenty of building tips, tricks and little bits of knowledge over the past few weeks… but now we want to know:

What would YOU like to learn about building? 🏡

Is there something you’ve always wondered about?

Maybe it’s renovations, framing, waterproofing, building terms ( I still have to ask the boys “what does this mean) 🫣, what happens behind your walls, or even why the boys do something a certain way on site.

✔️ Carport framed up, ready for roof sheets
✔️ First stage of interior painting complete, ready for fit-out 👌🏻

💡WISDOM WEDNESDAY💡

Did you know timber is constantly moving? 🪵

Even once it’s part of your home, timber isn’t a completely “still” material.

Timber naturally absorbs and releases moisture depending on the conditions around it, which can cause it to expand, shrink, twist or warp slightly over time.

That’s why things like moisture levels, correct storage, installation methods and allowing for movement are so important during a build. 🔨

It can also explain some of those little changes you might notice around your home as the seasons change, like a door becoming a little tighter 💪🏼

🔨FEATURE FRIDAY — FEATURING KAITLIN 🔨

So, I was going to get Loren to ask me a question for Feature Friday… but we have enough trouble deciding who’s booking tea, what time we’re eating and where we’re getting it from 😂

So instead, I thought I’d show you my most recent semi fail… because we all have them sometimes, don’t we? 🤦🏼‍♀️

I had this great idea to get a timelapse of the boys demolishing our newest Dunalley job.

Only problem? I was driving the school bus when they were starting, so I had to send Loren down to set it up for me. 🚌

Mistake #1: Trusting Loren with my very professional filming operation 😂 “you need to check it I’m worried”

Mistake #2: Forgetting to check there was an SD card in the camera. There wasn’t. 🤦🏼‍♀️
Cue a quick trip to Shell Dunalley to grab one!

Mistake #3: Not having a power bank hooked up… so naturally, the battery went flat halfway through. 🤦🏼‍♀️

At this point I was convinced my first attempt at a proper timelapse was going to be an epic fail.

BUTTTT… turns out I actually got way more footage than I thought, and it didn’t turn out half bad! 🙌🏼

So here it is my very first timelapse! 📹

I’m actually pretty proud of myself. 😂
Never done one before, learnt a few things along the way, and next time I’ll remember the SD card AND the power bank.

It’s only up from here! 🧗🏼‍♀️😂

LET’S TALK WATERPROOFING!

It might not be the most exciting part of a renovation, but it’s definitely one of the most important!

Waterproofing creates a protective barrier beneath your tiles in wet areas like bathrooms, showers and laundries, helping stop water from getting where it shouldn’t.

And when waterproofing isn’t done properly? 👀
You could be looking at leaks, mould, damaged flooring, rotten timber and some pretty expensive repairs down the track. 💸

When it comes to wet areas, what’s under the tiles is just as important as what you can see on top!

💬 “What’s something you do behind the scenes that people probably don’t realise is part of running a building business?”

Her answer:

“The amount of paperwork, organisation and planning that goes into each and every job before it even begins.

From filing permits and preparing estimates, to ordering materials and supplies, booking trades to make sure everything happens in the most efficient timeframe, and juggling staff between job sites.

It’s all about making sure we’re providing the best possible service to our clients, while still maintaining the high-quality workmanship and results we expect from our team.”
