Here's a summer tip from your local plumber ☀️

Summer brings all types of fun… and in my case, that's swimming in the ocean. 🌊 If you're not sure about the conditions at the beach, ask a local lifeguard or local lifesaver. The safest place to swim in Sydney is between the flags!

But there are dangerous conditions everywhere we go. As we head into summer, it's gas barbecue season 🔥 and if your gas barbie is leaking (or you think it might be), those are DANGEROUS CONDITIONS. ⚠️

If you smell gas:
🔴 Turn the gas off at the bottle
🔴 Don't light it or use it
🔴 Keep flames and sparks well away

A quick check before the first cook-up of the season: brush soapy water over the hose and connections with the gas on and the barbie off. Bubbles = a leak.

If you're not sure, ask your local plumber. And in the meantime, let's go swimming! 🏊‍♂️

What's that spell? VAPOROOTER! 🎉

If tree roots keep coming back in your sewer, cutting them out is only half the job. Vaporooter is a sewer root control foam that fills the pipe to kill roots on contact and inhibit future root growth. And here's the best bit: only roots within the pipe and a very short distance outside it are affected, so your trees and shrubs are not harmed (just their creeping roots are evicted from the sewer pipes). 🌳

Here's a tip from your local plumber 🔧

We're in Bondi, at a 100-year-old house with tree roots in the sewer. The pipes are a mix of old earthenware and some PVC… but here's the twist.

The roots aren't coming from any trees on this property. 🌳 There are a couple of big fig trees next door, and their roots are growing under the wall and straight into this home's pipes.

So just because the trees aren't on your property, it doesn't mean you won't have tree roots in your sewer.

Older earthenware pipes are especially vulnerable, since roots find their way into the joints and cracks, then keep growing.

Robert Redford fans will know this line, and it's good advice for your stormwater too.

Blocked gutters, broken outlets, and drains full of roots and leaves all look harmless on a sunny day. But when the next big storm hits, that water has nowhere to go except back toward your house.

So check your stormwater before the rain:

Here's a tip from your local plumber 🔧

Has your water bill suddenly jumped? 💧

It could mean there's a leak somewhere in your house. It might be something as simple as:

🚽 A toilet that's quietly running into the bowl
🚰 A dripping tap
🌿 A garden tap somewhere spilling water you don't know about
