It’s one of those problems that just won't go away. 🦊🦌🐗

We are seeing plenty of foxes, wild dogs, deer, and pigs across the Mid North Coast right now. But it’s incredibly frustrating when some landowners are trying their absolute hardest to control these pests, while the block next door won't lift a finger.

It makes it so tough on the farmers dealing with overgrazing, damaged infrastructure, and stock losses—especially with the cost of living and fuel going through the roof.

To help out our local farming community, for the next month we are reducing our rates for all Pest Control Activities on the Mid North Coast by 25%. Let us help you get on top of your pest problems now before winter really sets in. Give us a call or send a DM to book in.

Not all heavy bullets are created equal.

A lot of people think you can just load a heavy target bullet, slow it down to subsonic speeds, and go hunting. We recently hit the range with some 10% ballistic gel to test exactly why that is a recipe for disaster and why we carefully tailor our ammunition for peri-urban pest control.

Here’s what our 20m gel tests proved:

Standard Match/Hunting Bullets: When fired at subsonic speeds, heavy target rounds like the 220gr ELD-M and standard .223 V-Max/BTHP completely fail to expand. They act like full metal jackets, "penciling" straight through the target with zero energy transfer, leading to high risks of over-penetration.

We rely on the 190gr Hornady Sub-X. Hornady claims reliable expansion down to 900 fps, and our testing proved it. Even slowed down to 957 fps, the Sub-X perfectly doubled its diameter (from 7.8mm to over 15.4mm) and retained 99.8% of its weight. Pushed to 1035 fps, it mushroomed to a massive 20.15mm!

We recently recovered a 190gr Sub-X from a 130m headshot on a young Rusa buck using a 950 fps load. The projectile severed the vertebrae, dumped 100% of its energy, and safely stopped right in the thick neck skin. Perfect humane dispatch. Zero risk of over-penetration.

We don't guess. We test.

Waiting for the green light.

Working in peri-urban environments means you can't just take any shot. We spend a lot of time waiting for deer to move into strictly designated "Safe Zones." In some cases we don't get a shot at all.

We only pull the trigger when we have zero livestock in the background, and absolute certainty that our firing angle is directed safely into the ground—well away from neighboring houses or roads.

We understand that not everyone sees these animals as pests, but for our clients, the damage they cause is very real. We are here to provide a safe, ethical, and highly regulated solution.

The right tools for Peri-Urban contracts.

When we get called out to a 40-acre property right near town, standard supersonic ammunition is off the table. The risk of overshooting in populated areas is simply too high.

This thermal clip shows our solution in action. We use hand-loaded Hornady Sub-X projectiles carefully tuned to 1000 fps. These rounds are engineered to expand reliably at low velocities. The result?

Complete energy transfer into the deer, dropping them instantly without the risk of pass-through or the animal running through a neighbours fence line. Even recovering the projectiles from these animals.

It takes specialised gear, strict safety protocols, and the right licenses to operate in these environments.

Give us a call to discuss a tailored management plan for your property.

True sustainability in action today at the Vulcan Leather and Brass tanning day.

It was awesome to get a behind-the-scenes look at the multiple stages of hide processing. Even cooler? The deer hides they were working on—and those great skull mounts on display—were all supplied by us from previous local culls.

Minimizing waste is a huge priority. Getting to see the transformation from a paddock pest to a premium, handcrafted leather resource is fantastic. It’s a very informative process and a great way to utilize the whole animal.

Make sure you give their page a follow to see some top-tier local craftsmanship!

Out clearing paddocks tonight with the Lithgow LA101 paired with the HIKMICRO Stellar SH35L. 🦊🎯

For a somewhat budget-friendly thermal, this thing absolutely rocks. The clarity is so good and it performs so consistently that I’ve got one permanently set up on the .300 Blackout, plus a spare to hot-swap between rifles as the job requires. Couldn't recommend them enough.

At the same time, the Lithgow is just delivering the goods. It works an absolute treat on these smaller jobs and is definitely tallying up the foxes and rabbits lately.

Still not being recommended by Facebook so we have been holding off the posting and such.

Playing around with .22 ammunition to try and find something that will work with my new to me Lithgow 101.

Pleased to say it has loved every brand of ammo we threw at it.

Some where faster than expected.
