Existing trees, shifting light, raw terrain and the changing rhythms of season and weather all inform the way we approach a project.

These images come from projects across a range of Australian settings, coastal, regional, tropical and urban, each responding in its own way to place, climate and environment.

Arriving at Grounded House, visitors are initially confronted by a large, unadorned rammed earth wall, with simply a narrow aperture as a point of legibility which preserves the occupant's outlook from each, so as not to create feelings of disconnection, but to reinforce a oneness with the surrounds.

Robin House - the 3rd in a series of 4 homes designed for

Robin House consciously moved away from the darker tones of Heron House and Wren House, whilst maintaining the core blockwork spine that all 4 homes share as a project anchor, ensuring a robustness in their beach house context.

Thrilled to receive confirmation that Grounded House has been shortlisted in the Australian Interior Design Awards for 2026. Looking forward to seeing how it goes!
A brief, shaped around family life, sits at the heart of the interior design, focusing on spaces that feel practical, durable, and closely connected to the landscape.
Inside, the palette responds to the strength of the concrete and blockwork exterior with a sense of warmth and ease. Spotted gum brings a natural tactility that softens the structure and makes the spaces feel more grounded and comfortable. The result is a home that supports both shared moments and quiet retreat, all while staying closely connected to its surroundings.

Whether at the trusty drawing board he has had for his entire career, or perched at the breakout table, Jerry is never far from a roll of yellow trace.

The north-facing courtyard is the quiet heart of Fairhaven Frame House - as evidenced by the many lunches the team from Doherty Building Group shared here during construction. Anchored by an existing Stringybark tree, this sheltered space immediately grounds the building in its site. Here, occupants sit in sun and calm, protected from prevailing winds while enjoying framed views through the house toward the ocean beyond.
