It’s September which means Pre Emergents are due to be applied! 🌱
Steps to apply:
1. Measure your lawn
You can do this by stepping out roughly 1 metre steps in both directions. Multiply the length by the width to get your total lawn area in m².
2. Work out how much water you need
Know how much water your spray unit needs to evenly cover your entire lawn in both directions.
For example, this lawn is 150m² and needs 15L of water.
Add your products to the spray unit following the recommended application rates on each product label.
3. Spray in both directions
Spray the entire lawn in one direction then again in the opposite direction for even coverage.
I use the stripes from mowing as a guide so I can easily see where I’ve sprayed.
4. Water the products into the soil
Once applied, use your sprinkler system or hand water to wash the products off the leaf and into the soil profile.
Aim for the equivalent of around 6mm of rainfall. There’s no need to drench the lawn.
5. Treat any existing weeds
Pre Emergent helps prevent new weeds from germinating. It won’t kill weeds that are already there.
If you have existing weeds, you can apply a suitable herbicide on the same day once the lawn has dried after watering.
TIP 🌱
Pre Emergent and an insect preventative can be applied together.
I also recommend adding a wetting agent to help water and products move more evenly through the soil profile.
As always, follow the product label directions and application rates.
