He first picked up the tools with his grandad at about 14, and he's been in the industry around seven years now.

This one is labour only. We'd usually rather do supply and install, so the materials and the finish sit with us from the start.

So why do fascias rot or rust in Perth homes, and how long should they actually last?

The main cause is moisture. When gutters are blocked or overflowing, water backs up and sits against the timber. It rots from the inside out, so by the time you can see it, the damage is already done.

They should last 20 to 30 years. We see timber gone in under 10, almost always because gutters weren’t maintained or the timber wasn’t properly sealed on installation.

If you’re doing a home renovation, don’t make this costly mistake.

Replacing your gutters without fixing the eaves and fascia first is a trap. You’ll spend big on new gutters, but if the fascia or eaves are rotten or damaged, the gutters won’t last.

Fix the structure first, and your gutters will actually do their job.
