🌱 W**d Free Samford – Community in Action 🌱

A fantastic turnout today at the W**d Free Samford event, hosted by PRCA and proudly presented by GrassForce.

The event was officially opened by Kath Tonks, Councillor for Moreton Bay City, followed by insights from Dan Pagotto, PRCA Operations Manager and Scientist.

But the spotlight this morning is Dr Wayne Vogler, Senior Scientist, Tropical W**ds, Biosecurity QLD – bringing the latest science and practical strategies on how we can tackle Giant Rat’s Tail Grass together.

👏 It was inspiring to see so many landholders and community members come together with a shared goal: to beat GRT as a community and protect our valley.

🚨 Firew**d (Category 3 restricted invasive plant) found in Highvale 🚨

Ted spotted firew**d today in Highvale. This toxic plant is spreading fast across Samford, Dayboro and the wider Moreton Bay region. If you want to see how quickly it takes hold, take a drive through the Woodford or Kilcoy areas—some paddocks are almost wall-to-wall firew**d.

Under Queensland’s Biosecurity Act 2014, firew**d is a Category 3 restricted invasive plant, and landholders have a General Biosecurity Obligation (GBO) to manage it.

🌱 Firew**d typically dies back in spring, but the root system and seedbank persist—allowing it to regrow rapidly each year. Be cautious: mowing or slashing without a herbicide program can spread seeds and make infestations worse.

🌾 W**d Free Samford – SOLD OUT! 🌾

We’re excited to share that the W**d Free Samford Workshop and Field Day is now fully booked, with 80 local landholders registered to attend the event on Thursday, 21 August!

This community-led workshop, hosted by Pine Rivers Catchment Association (PRCA), will deliver a full day of expert presentations and hands-on demonstrations focused on tackling Giant Rat’s Tail Grass (GRT) – one of the most damaging and persistent pasture w**ds in our region.

☕ PRCA has arranged morning tea and a local coffee cart to keep everyone energised

🥪 SunWater is generously sponsoring lunch for all attendees – a big thank you!

Due to overwhelming demand, we’re now working with PRCA and key contributors to plan a second event later this year, likely in October or November in Samford or Dayboro.

🌿 Before & After: Tackling Lantana, Cats Claw & More at Cedar Creek 🌿

One of the key things we do at GrassForce as part of our integrated property planning is physically remove invasive w**ds like Lantana and Cats Claw, while preserving native trees and improving the landscape.

Welcome Fletcher Callaway to the GrassForce Team!

We’re proud to have Fletcher Callaway on board at GrassForce — bringing energy, smarts, and serious capability to the team.

Fletch has spent the past few years working on our family farms and sister companies, building hands-on experience in livestock handling, slashing, spraying, and property maintenance.

He’s also a standout engineering and physics student, topping the state in Physics last year, and now studying at the University of Queensland. When he’s not on the tractor, chainsaw or mini loader — he’s training with the Brisbane Lions Academy.

Fletch works with us five days a fortnight, helping local landholders get jobs done right.
