Today the team put the ovens to work for Ferrycarrig’s first Bake Off.

Across cakes, cookies and brownies, culture infused traditional dishes, every entry was judged anonymously via a fair point scoring system, so it all came down to taste (and perhaps a little persuasion). After plenty of deliberation (and a fair amount of sugar), we landed on three clear winners and a wooden spoon.

Congratulations to Jennifer Sorensen, Emma Starrs, Sinead Carley and Barry Sorensen. Thank you to everyone who baked, voted and stepped away from the computers to get involved with our first of many Bake Off’s. Special mention to Mairead McKenna for bringing the idea to life.

We are already planning the next one.

Equinix SY9, a new data centre in Camellia, is now fully energised after a two-year programme delivered by Ferrycarrig.

Appointed by principal contractor AW Edwards, we first delivered a mixed utilities and remediation scope, then were awarded an additional contract to design and build the critical 11kV power connection. Over 1.8 km of 11kV feeder was constructed, combining trenching, under-boring and kiosk substations to connect the site.

The remediation scope included excavation and safe removal of approximately 30,000 tonnes of asbestos-contaminated material, 60,000 tonnes of imported sandstone capping, over 1 km of large-diameter stormwater, a 500 m retaining wall and a permanent heavy-duty ring road. At peak, 10 crews and our in-house traffic team were on site navigating complex contamination and access challenges.

With every scope self-performed, from design and remediation through to 11kV commissioning, our team carried full accountability across a genuinely complex programme. That is how Ferrycarrig delivers.

Her dedication to ensuring the system has been implemented correctly, along with her commitment to training and upskilling staff, has made a lasting impact.

From project delivery and engineering to environmental management, traffic operations, administration and leadership roles, women play an important part across all sectors of our business. Their expertise, dedication and hard work help drive the success of our projects and strengthen our team.

To celebrate the day, our team took some time out to focus on wellbeing with a yoga and meditation session, followed by a gorgeous lunch together. It was a great opportunity to connect, reflect, and recognise the important contributions women make within our organisation and the wider construction industry.

Ferrycarrig is thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of the New Sydney Fish Market this week, a landmark moment for Sydney’s iconic waterfront 🌊

We’re incredibly proud to have contributed significantly to the infrastructure for this iconic project.

Over the past 4 years, our dedicated team collaborated closely with Multiplex to advance design and delivery, while successfully executing several critical civil, utility and supporting building scopes. This project truly highlights Ferrycarrig’s expertise in compound engineering solutions, delivering complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure in demanding urban and marine settings.

Special thanks to our incredible Project Team: Ammar Yaser (PM), Ali Dooey (SPE), Saubhagya Chaudhary (SE), Kerry Devine and Annie Gallagher (HSEQ), along with our Foreman Anthony Flaherty and crew, for their outstanding efforts on the ground.

A special mention goes to Garvan Walsh, our late supervisor, who led this project through some of its most challenging times. Garvan’s leadership, resilience, and spirit are deeply missed by all of us here at Ferrycarrig.

We would also like extend our sincere appreciation to Multiplex and all project partners for their collaboration, professionalism, and dedication. We look forward to the continued success of the New Sydney Fish Market as it commences operations and welcomes visitors.
