Two months in and we’re nearly at lock-up 🔨🏠

The Oakleigh South project has been absolutely flying. Roof is on, the structure is taking shape and every week this place is looking more and more like a home.

We’ve been putting a heap of work into our new digital systems and how we run our projects behind the scenes. Better planning, better communication and a much clearer picture of what’s happening on site each day.

It’s been awesome actually seeing all that work translate into a project running this efficiently.

Massive credit to the boys too. Systems are great, but you still need a good team to make it all happen.

Really proud of how this one is coming together. Plenty more to come 🤝🔨

At this point, I’m pretty sure we’re building retaining walls with a house attached to them 😂

Another site update from the Yarra Valley, and yep… more McLaren sleepers.

Steps. Retaining walls. More steps. More retaining walls.

Every time we finish one, the site seems to unlock another level.

But on a block like this, it’s all part of the game. Every wall is shaping the site, creating usable space and slowly turning what started as a pretty wild piece of ground into a home.

And the best part?

We’re still not done 😂

Plenty more rocks to come.

Building is what I was trained to do.

Running a business wasn’t.

I think that’s something our industry doesn’t talk about enough.

As tradesmen, we spend years learning our craft. We become great carpenters, plumbers, electricians and painters. But very few of us are ever taught how to lead people, understand finance, build systems or grow a sustainable business.

Those are skills too.

That’s why I’m incredibly grateful to have people like Kristine Dawson and PROTRADE United in my corner, helping challenge my thinking and making me a better business owner. And it’s pretty special that I get to share that journey alongside one of my best mates, who also happens to be our plumber.

We’re all trying to get better. Not just at our trade, but at building businesses that look after our clients, our teams and our families.

There shouldn’t be a stigma around asking for help or investing in coaching. If anything, it should be the baseline.

The day you think you’ve got nothing left to learn is probably the day you stop growing.

I’m proud to keep learning, and even more grateful for the people I get to learn from and alongside.

Have you ever seen a 5-metre rock wall?

Me either.

Anyway…

A group of flamingos is called a flamboyance. No idea who came up with that, but I’m glad they did.

Now, back to the rock wall.

This thing stands just over 5 metres tall and every single rock was placed with purpose. It’s one of those parts of a project that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves, but the scale is seriously hard to appreciate until you’re standing next to it.

Safe. Solid. And an absolute beast.

Sometimes construction is just plain cool.

Progress update from site. 👷‍♂️

Today was one of those days where everything just clicked.

The crew smashed out the concrete stumps, everyone knew their role, and the job flowed exactly how it should. Watching a team work efficiently is one of the most satisfying parts of building.

A few years ago, I thought good projects came down to working harder. These days, I know they come from good people, clear systems, and everyone pulling in the same direction.

Slowly but surely, this one is taking shape.
