Dunkeld SES | Community Build

Some projects mean more than most. This recently completed facility for the Dunkeld SES is one we're proud to have delivered. A practical, durable, and highly functional base for the volunteers who show up for this community when it matters most.

Every element was designed with longevity and efficiency in mind. From the flooring to the fit-out, the focus was on creating a space built to handle demanding use, day in and day out, so the team can focus on what they do best.

The build was a genuinely collaborative effort with our trusted local trades, united by a clear and worthwhile purpose.

To the Dunkeld SES volunteers, thank you for everything you do. 🧡

Mt Arapiles Farmhouse

Built for a young family. Designed to belong.

A modern farmhouse at the foot of Mt Arapiles, where rural life meets considered design. A striking roofline, durable brick, and a warm olive and gold interior palette that draws directly from the landscape around it.

Kalypso | Ocean Drive, Port Fairy

When client, architect, and builder share a clear vision, the result speaks for itself.

This Port Fairy renovation was guided from the outset by the property's greatest asset, its uninterrupted ocean views and rare coastal position. Architect Bianca Scaife of Cooper Scaife Architects designed a home that fully embraces its surroundings, drawing on natural tones and textures inspired by the seascape to create spaces that feel calm, cohesive, and deeply connected to the coast.

Equally considered was accessibility. Features including a lowered kitchen bench, open roll-in showers, and a discreet stair lift have been thoughtfully integrated, proving that good design can be both beautiful and functional without compromise.

More of this stunning renovation coming soon.

Some elements of a build speak quietly from a distance, but carry significant complexity up close. The roofline on this Mt Arapiles project is one of them.

These progress images capture the precision required to bring the design to life, from the fading ridge over the main carport to the pointed hip that defines the eastern office. Every angle needed to be carefully considered, measured and executed to ensure the final form remained true to the original intent.

Delivered over an 18-month build, this project is a reflection of what can be achieved through strong collaboration between builder and architect - where complex ideas are resolved through experience, planning and attention to detail.

30 years with Huf Builders.

This week, we recognise Cavendish local Troy Duncan for an incredible milestone - 30 years of dedicated service.
Troy began his career with us as a 17-year-old, starting out with Ron and Kaye Huf at Cavendish Building Supplies. Over the years, he has grown into a highly respected team leader, delivering projects across new homes, renovations and commercial builds.

His experience, attention to detail and steady approach on site have made him an integral part of our team, not only in the work he delivers, but in the way he supports and mentors the next generation of builders coming through.

Long-standing team members like Troy are a big part of what defines Huf Builders ... a family business built on consistency, trust and craftsmanship.

Thanks Troy, for your contribution over the years.

Mt Arapiles Farmhouse, Wimmera.

Set within an exposed rural landscape, this home was designed to respond directly to its environment, shaped by harsh sun, open plains and prevailing winds.

The elevated form and cranked floor plan work together to create a sheltered northern verandah, capturing natural light while providing protection from the elements. From this vantage point, the home looks out toward the striking backdrop of Mt Arapiles.

Material selection was equally considered. Robust, locally sourced materials reflect the practicality of the Australian rural vernacular, with durable brick and galvanised steel chosen for longevity and resilience.

A home designed not just for its setting, but for the conditions that come with it.

At Huf Builders, the finished product is only part of the story. How we work, and how we work with our clients, is just as important as what we build.

Across residential, commercial, sport and leisure projects, we focus on strong relationships, clear communication and attention to detail at every stage. We believe the best outcomes happen when builder and client work closely together from the outset, sharing a clear understanding of the vision and the process.

With decades of experience across domestic and commercial construction, our team brings considered expertise to architectural homes, renovations, extensions and heritage restorations throughout south-west Victoria.

For us, quality workmanship is a given. A positive building experience is the standard.
