Putting effort into something thats designed to break is hard sometimes. This crossing is designed to wash away in 3 seperate stages without taking its next stage with it. From normal seasonal flows, heavy fast rain events and then the big one where nothing near a creek is safe. All stages have built in weak spots to make repairs as fast as possible after the water subsides.

A few side notes to these videos, we built 2 roughly 6” swales to spread water across the property. First one 5” lower than the incoming water, the second afoot lower. All on contour.
It appears 6” was not enough(for this event).
At the time these videos were taken Harcourt was about 6 weeks post a serious bushfire leaving very little if any ground cover, ANYWHERE!! Couple that with the 2 inches of rain in the previous 12 hours we were taking about some serious destructive flows I had not accounted for.
It’s been so dry for that long, I thought it was another dreamer of a weather report.

A big couple of days on this property. As you can see the mulcher takes no prisoners, leaves all the biomass exactly where it’s needed and speeds up the breakdown process 10 fold!!! This job also highlights the importance of farm to farm hygiene(bio security), don’t let your contractor skimp on cleanliness!!!

On a recent fencing job(which is also the final piece of the puzzle for the rotational grazing of this small acreage) it was agreed the St. John’s Wort may have been getting a little out of hand and beyond the customer for this year.
With this in mind, and the fact it was at flowering stage I offered the services of the 6 foot mulcher to get on top of the worst of it.
The results absolutely speak for themselves here; leaving a nice layer of organic matter evenly spread across the grass. With high hopes that a little shower today will spark some pasture along nicely going into Christmas.
