** SAFER FOOTPATHS AND STREETS FOR CORAKI TOWN CENTRE **
If you've been through Richmond Terrace lately, you've probably noticed things looking a little different.
Council has completed a major upgrade in front of the Coraki shops between Grenfell Street and the Post Office, making the area safer and easier for people to get around on foot.
The project replaced 95 metres of old kerb and gutter and transformed the uneven bitumen footpath into a new full-width concrete footpath.
Different kerb and drainage treatments were needed to create a smoother surface for pedestrians while ensuring water drains properly from both the road and footpath.
The upgrade also included new steel bollards to help protect pedestrians and concrete traffic islands to safeguard the awning posts outside local businesses.
To finish the project, crews rebuilt the pavement along the length of the works and applied a primer seal ready for future road surfacing.
And there's more to come.
Further roadworks are planned for October, extending about 270 metres north from the bakery, with a full-depth pavement reconstruction scheduled for that section of Richmond Terrace.
