Researchers have confirmed Sydney's funnel-web spiders are made up of three different species.
The largest and most venomous type is known as the Newcastle funnel-web. 🕷️🕷️🕷️

It is something researchers have suspected for 20 years. Now they know for sure the Newcastle funnel-web is bigger, scarier, and different than the rest.

Facts about Redback Spiders 🕷️

Redbacks are found Australia-wide and will live pretty much anywhere. All they need is a sheltered web site 🕸️ and plenty of food. This is why shoes, left outside, make the perfect spot for redbacks.

As you can see in the photos Kane took this week, this female redback has decided to make the hose reel her home.

Female redbacks are always larger than the males and are the only ones who produce webs.

She spends most of her time producing eggs. On average she can produce 10 round egg sacs which contain about 250 eggs (that’s 2,500 babies) and will keep going for 1-3 weeks. These babies when hatched disperse using just the slightest breeze. 🕷️
