Over the past few days our crane has appeared in hundreds of media articles and I have since been asked hundreds of questions by concerned Whitsunday locals, So:

We were asked on Sat 29/7 by Queensland Police (QPS) to assist in recovering some large debris believed to be part of the missing Army Taipan helicopter, We immediately mobilised a Franna along with additional crew from Whitsunday Crane Hire.

Jointly with QPS, the landing barge Moreton Venture and some US Navy divers we were able to safely recover several pieces consistent with a downed helicopter, the pieces were returned to the mainland and secured by QPS where they will form parts of the ADF investigation.

We are not aviation experts and respectfully offer no opinion on what may have happened to the aircraft or the aircrew. The reports from most news outlets has been mostly accurate and it appears to be a single aircraft accident and nothing more!

Furthermore we have great respect for the ADF and it’s personnel and are saddened by this disaster and the unfortunate loss of life, as I’m sure most Australian's are!

I would like to thank both VMR Whitsunday and VMR Midge Point who contributed many hours to the search operations finding much debris and securing it for recovery, As always the volunteers gave there time not wanting or receiving any recognition by the media, it was a great effort under some trying circumstances and you guys excelled as always! We will continue to proudly support the VMR.
