At Nourish & Breathe in Dairy Road, recycled timber helps bring together a clinic, herbal apothecary, shop, canteen and space for workshops and events.

Renae has been a long-time Thor’s Hammer customer, and for this fitout, recycled Blue Gum / Coastal Reds was used throughout the space for shelving, benchtops and tabletops. Recycled timber cladding also brings texture into one of the clinic rooms.

At the centre of it all is an old Thor’s Hammer T1 table base, picked up by Renae during our moving sale in 2019 and later given a new life as a large communal table.

From furniture and joinery to wall cladding, recycled timber carries a natural thread through the space, connecting its many different uses and creating an environment designed for people to spend time in.

Nearly two decades, two renovations, and a whole lot of recycled timber.

Renae first visited Thor’s Hammer at the Brickworks in 2008. Since then, she’s used recycled timber throughout her Canberra home, from Spotted Gum flooring and shelving to the latest renovation, where Blackbutt, Spotted Gum and Mixed Brown Australian Hardwoods create a warm, immersive retreat.

The new main bedroom is surrounded by timber, from floor to ceiling, creating a cosy, tucked-away feeling inspired by Renae’s love of her timber boat, Phoenix. 🚤

It’s a beautiful reminder that recycled timber doesn’t just have a past. It can become part of the story of a home for decades to come.

This project uses Blackbutt across both the carport and kitchen, with 40 x 40mm Blackbutt battens creating the carport door and Blackbutt floorboards used as cladding for the kitchen cabinetry and bulkhead.

The result is a strong connection between the exterior and interior, with the natural character of the timber carrying through the home.

Thanks to for sending this one in for Thor’s Hammer in the Wild!

Got a Thor’s Hammer project of your own? Send us a photo via Facebook or Instagram, or email [email protected] to enter this month’s competition. https://www.thors.com.au/thors-journal/thors-hammer-in-the-wild-competition

This beautiful hall table was made using Spotted Gum purchased from Thor’s Hammer, with a special detail in the centre: parquetry retained from the floor during a recent renovation.

The table is Ian's first piece of furniture, following years of creating smaller projects including picture frames, trays, boxes and knife blocks. His woodworking journey began after inheriting his late father’s tools and a modest stock of craft timbers.

We love seeing the skills, stories and materials that come together to create something completely unique.

Thanks for sharing your work with us as part of Thor’s Hammer in the Wild.

Got a Thor’s Hammer project of your own? We’d love to see it. Send us a photo via Facebook or Instagram, or email it to [email protected] to enter this month’s competition. https://www.thors.com.au/thors-journal/thors-hammer-in-the-wild-competition

Meet James, a young Canberra woodworker who has been putting Thor's Hammer recycled timber to work in his own projects.

Most recently, James built this coffee table using Brushbox, finished with a Tumut marble top. He has also made a set of bookshelves from Canberra Local Ash, using 150mm wide boards glued together to create the panels.

Pretty impressive work, James. Thanks for sharing your projects with us and for entering Thor's Hammer in the Wild!

A coffee table with a bit of history. made this piece using recycled timber from Thor’s Hammer, believed to be a mix of Blackbutt and Brushbox.

Finished with Osmo Polyx-Oil Clear Satin, the timber has been left to do the talking, with its natural variation and character on full display.

This beautiful 1200mm round dining table was made by Harry from Canberra’s , using recycled Bluegum/Coastal Reds.

The timber’s natural colour, character and history really shine through in this piece, giving these old boards a new life as a centrepiece for the home.

Always interesting to see what other makers create with our timber and the different ways they bring its character to life. Thanks for sharing this one with us, Harry!

Amy spotted this beautiful piece of timber at Thor’s Hammer and knew it would make the perfect feature piece at home. She collected it by bike, Thor’s on Bike, and has now given it a practical second life as a bike hanger, Bike on Thor’s.

We love seeing how our timber finds its way into people’s homes and takes on a whole new purpose. Thanks for sharing your Thor’s in the Wild, Amy! 🌿
