Every week our Canberra workshop fills a one cubic metre bin with dust. Ceiling pipes carry it from the CNC, edge ba**er and saw to one extractor.

Ever pulled a wide drawer from one side and felt it wobble? That’s racking.

This bathroom vanity drawer is extra wide, with a plumbing cut-out in the middle — so we fitted a Blum Australia Pty Ltd synchroniser linkage to the Legrabox runners. Pull one side, and the linkage keeps the other side travelling the exact same amount. On a drawer this wide, it’s the difference between solid and sloppy — a part you’ll never see, but you’ll feel it every morning.

What makes a bathroom feel calm? In this Kaleen project, a lot of it comes down to the joinery.

We teamed up with Refined Building Canberra to create custom bathroom vanities in warm, natural timber, each with its own character. They're built from polytec boards with a clean, smooth timber finish that lets the natural grain lead, plus Blum Australia Pty Ltd hardware and handles from Lincoln Sentry Group Pty Ltd . Set against soft terrazzo, with an overhead cupboard and an undermount sink completing the space, the result feels relaxed, light and considered.

Good joinery should feel like it was always meant to be there.

Here's how a Polytec Oberon door goes from blue film to ready to go: program up, area prepped, placement double-checked, then the CNC does the boring while we have a quick boogie. Oberon is a Style 4 Detailed Profile, made in 18 mm and 21 mm.

How much can one pantry drawer hold? Big pots and pans, bags of rice and bottles of oil all fit in these Blum LEGRABOX F height drawers (241 mm), with the mudroom and laundry joinery next door wrapping up the area.

Blum dropped off a cap, so we thought we'd show them where their LEGRABOX drawers ended up. This kitchen runs carbon black throughout, with M (90.5 mm) and K (128.5 mm) inner drawers and the F height (241 mm) at the bottom for the bigger stuff.

What does a joinery workshop do when instant coffee stops cutting it? We cleared the tools off the workbench and got a proper Breville coffee machine, with a fresh run of Asmbl cups to go with it.

Polytec Surano doors in a dark timber finish set the frame for this custom master wardrobe build in Campbell, Canberra.

The full-height cabinetry integrates clear glass door panels so hanging sections and shoe displays stay visible while protected. Standard overhead lights were swapped for warm vertical LED strips rebated directly into the carcase framing to illuminate each shelf evenly. Below the central vanity mirror, the island unit houses glass-topped drawers with fitted velvet jewelry compartments, operating on black Blum Legrabox runners for a smooth, precise glide.

Good joinery comes down to making high-density storage feel completely effortless to use.

A bare timber cabinet becomes four black, soft-close drawers, one clip at a time. We lift each Häfele Alto slim drawer in, clip it onto the runners and slide it home, then do it all again for cabinet two.

Every drawer box for this wardrobe build is ready, and every one is black. Häfele Alto slim drawers going into base cabinets, with the internals in matt Polytec Boston Oak and one bay of hanging rails already in.
