The pool was never really the problem. The ground around it was.

This Weetangera block falls towards the house, the yard drops in elevation the closer it gets to the building line. The pool sat at the low point, with the rest of the yard rising away behind it.

So, this design was not really about the pool. It was about turning this large yard into usable space the family could share together, separated into two levels by freshly crafted sandstone walls.

The lower one wraps the pool and gives it a level apron close to the house.

The upper one squares off the rest of the yard as it steps up behind it, finished with stunning sandstone logs.

Once those two lines are set, everything else follows. Get them wrong and the best pool in Canberra still feels awkward to use.

Got a pool that never quite gets used? It is usually the ground around it.

A garden isn't finished when the hardscape goes in. It's finished when the right plants go in the right spot.

Fresh hedging along a fence line, native grasses softening the edge of a path, a feature tree positioned for the shape it will grow into, none of it is guesswork. Every choice accounts for sun, soil and drainage, and how the space will read in a year, not just on planting day.

It's a stage of the build that's easy to rush and hard to fix later, the kind of detail that separates a garden that's designed from one that's just filled in.

Thinking about the planting for your yard? Let's talk about what will actually thrive there, with our qualified horticulturists guiding every choice.

Every sandstone step here was cut and set by hand to do one job properly: hold a safe, even footing, day after day.

That's harder than it looks. Each block has to be shaped so the rise and depth of every step lines up exactly with the one before it, no matter how the natural stone varies underneath. Get that wrong and a staircase feels awkward to walk. Get it right and you don't think about it at all, you just walk.

The warm, honey-gold grain running through the stone is what people notice first. What actually took the time was making sure every tread sits level, every edge is true, and the whole run rises safely from bottom to top.

It's the kind of craftsmanship that separates steps that are built properly from steps that just look the part.

Thinking about steps that are made to last and made to use? Let's talk about the design.

Your mailbox is the first thing anyone sees before they even reach your front door. What does it say about the rest of the property?

A letterbox built into matching stone or brick doesn't just hold the mail, it sets the tone for everything behind it. Get it right and it reads as a natural extension of the home's facade, not an afterthought bolted onto a timber post at the end of the driveway.

It's a small structure, but it's often the first material decision a visitor actually notices, the kind of detail that separates a property that's considered from one that's just finished.

Thinking about how your entrance sets the tone for your home? Let's talk about the design.

A bench is only useful if it is in the right spot.

Put one where nobody walks and it sits empty for years. Put it where people already pass, facing something worth looking at, with a bit of shade in summer, and it gets used every day.

Across this Canberra village the seating sits along the routes people actually take. Some look out over the bush. Some sit under trees that were on the block long before any of it was built. Some are a short walk from the front door, which for a lot of people is the whole point.

Shared space only works if someone wants to stop in it.

Thinking about where seating should go in your yard? That is worth getting right.

A pool is only half of a pool project.

The other half is everything around it. The paving you walk on with wet feet, the levels that send water away from the house instead of back toward it, the edge that has to line up with the water.

At this Canberra build the shell is in and full, and the crew are setting rails and forming up the surround. Base compacted, steel tied, every level checked before a single load of concrete turns up.

None of it gets noticed once it's finished. That is exactly the point.

Planning a pool? Let's talk about the space around it, not just the pool.

A well-built pond is not just a feature, it is an ecosystem.

This Canberra build is home to a healthy population of koi, with lily pads and elephant ears softening the rockwork and giving the fish somewhere to shelter.

Getting the balance right between rock, planting and filtration takes real thought, but done properly it settles in fast and looks like it has always been there. It is also a drawcard for birds and insects, bringing even more life into the garden.

The four steps between the backyard you have and the one you'll never want to leave.

We keep it simple. One conversation to understand how you live, a design you can see before anything is built, one clear price, and a crew that builds it like their own.

Thinking about your space? Start with the conversation.

There is no easy version of this job.

A barrow of wet mix is exactly as heavy as it looks. Sleepers get carried in by hand, because a machine cannot fit down the side of most Canberra houses. Ground that has not been turned in thirty years does not break up on the first swing.

Our crew do this through a Canberra summer and a Canberra winter, then turn up and do it again the next morning. Same faces, job after job. When a crew is in your backyard for six weeks, that part matters more than most people expect.

When you see a finished yard, this is what is underneath it.

Thinking about a project? Let's talk about what is involved.

Every path here had to work for someone using a walking frame.

That changes how you build. A ramp beside the steps so nobody has to pick one. Paths wide enough for two people to walk side by side. Surfaces that stay even where they join, because a small lip is a big deal on wheels. Somewhere to sit every short stretch, since being able to stop and rest is what makes the walk possible at all. Signs you can read without slowing down.

None of it looks like much in a photo. All of it decides whether someone heads outside today or stays in.

Worth thinking about at home too. Plenty of Canberra homeowners plan to stay in their place for the next thirty years, and these are the same decisions.

Planning ahead for your place? Let's talk about it.
