Today’s retrofit - Airtouch ✨
Running the AC all day? does your system seem inefficient?
Most homes are cooling empty rooms and wasting energy.
Retrofitting Airtouch to your existing ducted AC gives you smart zoning, better control and will save you on running cost so you only use what you need.
No full system replacement needed (in most cases)

Let’s talk solar installs and quote red flags 🚩
Lately Empowered has had a lot of calls to rectify switchboards or emergencies due to poor workmanship post solar installation. We want to educate customers so this doesn’t end up being you.

1- If your switchboard is not a 600x600 cutout and your chosen solar installer has not flagged that you may need a meter panel upgrade, you should definitely ask if the new smart meter (required for solar installations) will fit into your current meter panel

One of our most common rectification jobs is upgrading meter panels so the meter installers can install smart meters after the solar installation. This is not a small job and means significant unexpected additional costs

2- Do your research! How long has the company been around? Do they have many good reviews? Is the person quoting your solar system an electrician or a sales person?

Don’t be sold by the math skills on salesmen, the math isn’t relevant if the quality of work is sub average and the equipment installed is low end. You should be asking what brand of solar inverter you are getting, what brand are the solar panels, is the company local to the area and used to dealing with the network/energy providers, are the installers licensed locally or are the using subcontractors from interstate?
We see many people get low end systems for high end pricing. Solar systems should be made to last beyond the payback period and home owners should get the maximum financial benefit from the investment.

3- If your switchboard is in your meter box you should be asking your solar provider if the entire existing installation is up to code.

We often see solar installers ignore the switchboard and its current safety condition. If you are investing in solar you should also be investing in the safest possible install you can afford. If your solar installer does not like to work on switchboard upgrades we highly recommend engaging someone else.
Your switchboard should be on RCBOs/RCD not circuit breakers and or fuses

Let’s talk electric heaters ⚡️

Winter is well and truely here and with that our heaters are running full steam. So here are some tips to help you avoid an electrical fire and heater burnout.

1: Don’t run your heater at maximum temperature (I know it’s cold but trust us it can burnout the heater)

2: Give your heater a break. Setting your heater on low heat, a timer or turning it off during the day and night will help reduce the risk of an electrical fire or burnout (and your electricity bill 🙊)

3: If you have nuisance tripping or can smell burning from your heater, switch it off and call your electrician 👷🏻‍♀️
