🌿Happy National Wattle Day! 🌿

As the first day of Spring arrives, so too do the little fluffy yellow blooms of the Acacia pycnantha – more commonly known as the Golden Wattle.

🇦🇺 This wonderful tree is our National floral emblem and the reason why Green & Gold became Australia’s national sporting colours.

The Golden Wattle is just one of over 1,000 Acacia varieties found in Australia, making it our largest flowering plant genus. Found in every state, Acacia’s range from low shrubs to tall trees and grow across arid zones and forests, with more than half of those varieties found in Western Australia.

At LD Total we plant a number of Acacia species, with some of the most common ones being: Acacia acinacea aka ‘Gold Dust’ Wattle which is a great bushy shrub, the Acacia melanoxylon aka Australian Blackwood – a strong and impressive tree variety, and fast becoming a favourite in home gardens, is the Acacia cognata ‘Mini Cog’ with its compact size and soft weeping foliage.

If you’re planting a native garden at home, be sure to check out all the great Acacia varieties at your local plant nursery.

🌱 This means that sprinklers can be turned back on, however... with rain due this week, there is no need to be in any hurry to turn that tap on! ☔

🌞 Keep an eye on the weather forecast and wait until we have some consistent warm days expected.

Happy International Dog Day! ❤️

🐶 Every dog owner knows our four-legged friends love nothing more than open space to run, explore, sniff and play.

Recently, our Victorian team was proud to support Peet Communities National Tree Day initiative, joining local students from Wimba Primary – along with their trusty canine companion - for revegetation works at the newly opened dog park in Newhaven, Tarneit.

🐾 The students had a 'pawsome' time learning planting techniques and discovering why beautiful open spaces matter — not just for people, but for our canine companions too.

We're sure all the local dogs will love visiting the new park, complete with plenty of new plants to sniff! 🌱🐕

🏗️ Dan joined the business as a Landscape Construction Labourer and has grown into one of the most dependable and highly skilled members of our Construction team.

During his time with LD Total, Dan also stepped up into a Team Leader role, demonstrating his leadership capabilities before moving into his current role as a Trades Assistant.

🧱 Known as one of our resident hardscape experts, Dan's craftsmanship, technical knowledge, and attention to detail have helped deliver countless successful projects over the years. His skills are invaluable during the build phase of our projects, and his expertise continues to play a crucial role in the quality outcomes our clients expect from LD Total.

We’re thrilled to highlight the completion of two incredible new public open spaces at Frasers Landing in the City of Mandurah for Frasers Property! These distinct parks seamlessly blend community recreation with the preservation of native bushland and the foreshore.

Stage 5C Public Open Space
Nestled beneath a gorgeous canopy of retained trees, this space features a nature playground complete with a swing, climbing elements, and a tree-top cubby house high in the tree canopy. Timber jarrah carved totems showcasing local species—an Osprey, a Cockatoo, and a Brushtail Possum—sit alongside installed fauna habitat boxes. The area also includes two central shelters with seating, open turf recreation areas, and direct access for surrounding residents, particularly properties backing right onto the parkland. Play equipment and tower supplied by LyPa Australia.

Stage 5 Foreshore Public Open Space
Positioned right along the Serpentine River, this park maximises scenic water views while protecting existing vegetation. It features custom-designed Corten steel shelters, a dedicated fauna viewing wall, and unique bench seating crafted directly from repurposed logs salvaged from the site. A 3-metre-wide shared foreshore path runs through the area, seamlessly connecting the entire riverside estate.

Wood carvings by Jahne Rees from SCAPE-ISM, IronClad WA worked on the custom shelters & viewing wall, along with GX Outdoors supplying furniture & shelters as well.

🚜 Over the past decade, Kim has been our go to in house bobcat operator, playing a key role across countless construction projects. Prior to 2016, Kim also contributed to Landscape Development (before the company merged into LD TOTAL) as a subcontractor, making his overall contribution to the business even more significant.

🌱 Kim is a well liked and highly respected senior member of the construction team. His experience, reliability, and willingness to get the job done right have made him an invaluable part of our operations and a pleasure to work alongside.

Walls designed by Habit8 Landscape Architecture & Urbanism, this development showcases the value of integrating quality landscape construction with thoughtful urban design.

In collaboration with Queensland Block Laying and In2Stone, works included entry walls, signage elements, turfing, street trees, feature planting, bio basins, drainage channels, and revegetation areas.

Gumnut Park is more than just a playground—it's a space designed for every generation.

From the impressive multi-level play tower, which was designed and installed on site by Adventure+ Playgrounds and the 23-metre flying fox to the basketball court, fitness equipment and expansive open lawn, every element encourages play, connection and an active lifestyle.

Inclusive design was also at the heart of the project, with accessible play equipment helping ensure more families can enjoy the space together.

We're proud to have partnered with Stockland to help create a destination that will serve the Illyarrie community for years to come.

🌱 A great day at the Greenlife Industry WA Careers Expo!

Yesterday, our team attended the GIWA Careers Expo, where we had the opportunity to connect with students and aspiring professionals interested in pursuing careers within landscaping, horticulture and the life industry.

It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm for the industry and to share information about the apprenticeship and career pathways available at LD Total. We enjoyed speaking with so many motivated young people and discussing the opportunities a career in landscaping can offer.

We'd like to thank Greenlife Industry WA for hosting another successful event and for helping showcase the diverse and rewarding careers available across our industry.

What was once a former rural chicken farm is now one of the standout public open spaces within Stockland's Illyarrie Estate.

Our Design & Construction team transformed this site into Gumnut Park - a destination designed to bring people together while celebrating the site's natural character.

Watch the transformation unfold as months of planning, earthworks and construction come together to create a park the community can enjoy for generations.
