Join a walking tour of the Ecovillage in Currumbin Valley tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon?

Make an evening of it and stay around for the panel discussion afterwards - how might good design better connect us to each other, and the world around us?

So put your phone down, and join us!

Or better yet, get your tickets from Gold Coast Open House first.

And then put your phone down.

Tour here:

Just missing the bench seat tucked into this wrapping window setting.

Just the spot to sit and watch the diggers dig, dig, digging… as they clean and prep the yard ready for landscapes.

The original pool is now a landscape pond by Wernicks Landscape .

The original concrete surrounds have been cut and are being reused on this site and others.

Progress shots as beautiful finishes work their way through the spaces (with early 3d render for context)

The design has evolved and improved. However the concept for this court remains the same.

A high level light filled lantern central to the home.
And a sunken landscape court open to the sky.

The pair of spaces combine to form the largest room in the home, serving as entry, dining, pool court, refuge and more.

Hand drawings: strong and simple sketches used to convey intent and character with much warmth and personality.

Sketches by Jim Hensen. A few lines capturing such iconic characters.

Sure it’s not architecture but it’s Sesame Street. And the Muppets. And Fraggle Rock. And… capturing childhood and very creative minds at work.

Exhibition at GOMA now.

Glimpses from the bushland surrounds and back out to it again

Rear pavilion will be buried in its landscape setting. The front one will fade back into it over time.

View from the vertical garden court in this new home.

The court is a double height void cutting through the levels of the home, which is designed to feature hanging gardens and sculptural climbing gardens.

To hold the client’s passion for landscape.

To anchor the temperature of the home with thermal mass. And

To welcome the expansive views over hinterland (and winter sun.)

The house isn’t small, though on a large acreage block is dwarfed by a dramatic valley setting which the old house enjoyed for decades.

Something new!

If you enjoy interior design - pop on over and say hi to us - and Hayley - at ptma Interiors

We’ve been collaborating with Hayley Witt on interiors for our designs for a few years. Hayley was formerly running her own practice at Hayley Witt

Focusing on developing more sustainable outcomes for quality interiors projects, we enjoyed the collaboration.

So for the last 2 years Hayley has joined us - allowing us to collaborate in house.

We are happy to work with a range of interiors consultants, though we enjoy the consistency and quality of work we can realise as part of a (slightly) larger team. It also lets us work from Sunshine Coast, through Brisbane and the Gold Coast (through to Sydney) more easily.

Sure, it’s still us banging on. But now with a focus on interiors floating out into your stream.

(We also collaborate with landscape designers and architects. We see our role as helping our clients make the most of their whole site (and beyond). Not just making a building.)
