We’re extremely proud to share that we have been shortlisted as a finalist in the Multi Residential Dwelling category for Neighbourhood at the 2026 Sustainability Awards.

It’s an honour to see the project recognised alongside some of Australia’s leading examples of sustainable design and development. 💚

Merri Creek House is a finalist in the Houses category, with the winners announced at the awards night on 4 September.

Tucked into the bushland edge of Merri Creek, this home has always been a bit of a prototype. Originally designed in 1990 by Goad Fink and later extended by Fink & McMahon, it was handcrafted by its original owner, Ian Ezard - right down to the steel frame, built using a forklift.

Today, Breathe has gently retrofitted this much-loved home, adding no new floor area, but making it more comfortable, efficient, and artful. Working with the existing character, the approach brings together timber, colour, art and carefully considered details, while a natural pool and landscape by Sam Cox ties the home back to the creek.

Glimpses of The Village.

There’s something quietly special about village life in Daylesford. A place where architecture, landscape and community come together to create a slower, more considered way of living. From the historic streetscapes to the contemporary spaces nestled amongst the trees, Daylesford has a distinct sense of place that continues to inspire.

For us, it’s about creating architecture that feels connected to its surroundings — considered, enduring and made for living well.

We are thrilled to share that three Breathe projects are featured in the recently published State Design Book. Showcasing the best of residential design in Victoria, the book surveys housing from post-war to today. 28 projects are featured, including Nightingale Ballarat, Park Street Brunswick and Nightingale Village.
Importantly, this was a community nomination process: more than 170 submissions nominated 129 projects, which an advisory panel shortlisted down to the best of the best.

We thank all our collaborators, clients, sub-contractors and of course, future residents, for giving us the opportunity to do the work we love and create architecture we can be proud of.

Nightingale Ballarat was delivered with Hygge property and Park Street Brunswick, was delivered with Milleu. Nightingale Village Brunswick, was delivered in collaboration with six other great architecture practices Architecture Architecture, Austin Maynard Architects, Clare Cousins Architects, Hayball, Kennedy Nolan, WoWoWa.

Good housing supports community wellbeing, which lifts us all. We don’t have to choose between cost and quality. We can do both.

Part 2 - A village designed around people.

At The Village Daylesford, the spaces between homes are just as important as the homes themselves. Cars are moved to the edges, making way for landscaped paths where neighbours meet, children play, dogs wander and gardens become part of everyday life.

The result is a more connected way of living - where streets feel like shared spaces, and the simple act of walking home becomes part of village life.

Breathe is delighted to share that LIV Albert has been awarded Development of the Year in the BTR and PBSA category at The Urban Developer Awards for Industry Excellence.

Breathe was appointed interior architect, alongside architects Fieldwork and landscape architects Openwork. Mirvac was the ever-supportive client and also delivered a brilliant build through Mirvac Construction. As a Build-to-Rent neighbourhood, LIV Albert is designed to foster a strong, long-term community.

The project balances the needs of the developer, residents, and the wider area, focusing on high-quality construction and generous public and private spaces.

The award citation notes, “LIV Albert impressed judges with its resident-focused build-to-rent model, sustainability leadership, strong community amenities, parkland integration and innovative approach to long-term rental living.”

The award recognises a great project that has brought close to 500 new rental homes to a once abandoned industrial site in Brunswick.

The Village Daylesford is a new kind of neighbourhood — one shaped by landscape, sunlight and community.

Developed alongside Hygge Property, this collection of 30 carbon-neutral, fossil fuel-free homes has been designed to sit gently within Middleton Field. Every home faces north, incorporates passive heating and cooling, and uses considered, locally sourced materials to reduce its environmental impact.

Shared gardens sit at the heart of the village, creating space for neighbours to connect, grow food and build a strong sense of community.

Every home faces north and has been designed for passive heating and cooling, using considered local materials to maximise thermal, water and energy efficiency.

At the centre of the project is a belief that strong communities are just as important as strong design, with shared gardens encouraging residents to connect, grow food and build a genuine sense of village life.
