A decent 2 day job (about 12 hours total) to get this E55 back up and running with a new pump coupler. While not necessarily a “dealer workshop only” job, it does help to have a forklift or excavator available to remove the counterweight. But no job is too big for On Track to handle. And the best part, customer machine failed Friday arvo and back to work Wednesday morning. A day earlier if parts didn’t have to get flown from interstate. But certainly not a few weeks without a machine.

I get asked a bit about if it’s ok to mix coolant colours. The general answer is no, but it’s more than just mixing colours. Because red and green coolant could be the exact same just from different manufacturers. Some are designed to last longer. Some have additives that others don’t. BUT IF YOU OWN A BOBCAT, DO NOT ADD ANYTHING BUT BOBCAT COOLANT! I say that in all caps because the cost of making that mistake is in the thousands. Bobcat uses Propylene Glycol, whereas most coolant is Ethylene Glycol. When these mix it turns into a brown sludge which blocks everything. Water pumps, oil cooler, radiator, EGR, cooling galleries. Most parts have to be replaced if they can’t be 100% flushed through. So if you’re unsure, just add distilled water. It’ll lower the strength of your coolant, but it’s better than adding the wrong one.

We love servicing combos. Excavators, skid steers, trucks and trailers. Why get multiple companies out on multiple days and pay all that extra labour and travel. We don’t mind what brand machines you have, they can be 1.7t or 50t. We do them all.

Twice today I’ve been to no-start jobs that had nothing to do with flat batteries or fuel faults. Once you eliminate the obvious stuff, it’s time to earn your keep. This bobcat has manual joystick controls, which require both joysticks to be in neutral and depress a sensor to allow starting. Immediately I could feel there was no resistance in them. Previously it’s been loose bolts or gas struts but this time it was a neutral spring which had come loose. Compress it down, some loctite on the nut, tighten her up and away she goes again.

Another 14t undercarriage rebuild. Track and sprockets were fine so just had to replace broken idlers, rollers and a new set of pads 🤙

Would you rather know that your head is leaking, or your fuel pump seals have failed, or your bottom end bearings are on their way out, before you get a dead machine and a 30k repair bill. Well then you’re crazy not to add oil sample analysis to your next service. Lab tested and results sent to you so you know what’s going on with your machine.

When this customer had multiple hoses fail on the swivel joint in his excavator, we found that the locking plate for the upper structure had failed, with the holes becoming elongated and the bolts stripped. “Helicoil” would not have repaired this hole or held up to the extreme lateral forces required to turn the upper structure. “Key-serts” are a much stronger alternative. These create a solid insert with 4 keys that prevent the insert from ever undoing. A rock solid repair guaranteed to last for years to come.
