💧🪟 FAQ FRIDAY: What exactly is pure-water window cleaning?

Have you ever seen a window cleaner using a long water-fed pole, leaving the glass wet…and then simply walking away?

There’s a reason!

The water has been filtered to remove the minerals and impurities found in ordinary tap water.

We use it with a specialised brush to loosen the dirt, clean the glass and frames, then rinse everything thoroughly.

Because the water is purified, it can be left to dry naturally without the mineral spotting you’d normally expect from tap water.

It’s particularly useful for exterior and harder-to-reach windows — and in many situations it also lets us work safely from ground level.

So when you see the big pole come out, now you know what’s going on!

He started in the cleaning industry at 14.

Now he's 19.

I'm 65 and have been in this trade for 30 years.

So what could this window cleaning veteran possibly learn from him?

Quite a lot, as it turns out. 😄

My conversation with Sabdiel Perez from Clean First Cleaning Services is now live on The Window Pro Podcast.

🧽🪟 FAQ FRIDAY: Do you clean the screens and window tracks?

Clean glass can make a huge difference — but sometimes you look at the screen or down into the track and think, “Yep…that needs some attention too.” 😄

Flyscreens and tracks can collect plenty of dust, dead flies, and grime over time, and they should absolutely be included as part of a window cleaning service.

The important thing is making sure we know what you’d like cleaned when the job is quoted.

That way, everyone knows exactly what’s included.

🏠 FAQ FRIDAY: Do you need to be home while your windows are being cleaned?

Not necessarily.

If you’re having an exterior-only clean, we can often complete the job while you’re out — as long as access to the windows has been arranged beforehand.

Gates, pets and locked areas are worth sorting out before the day, but otherwise you may be able to carry on with your plans while we take care of the windows.

For interior cleaning, of course, we’ll normally need someone there to let us in. And some external window cleaning needs to be done from inside the home.

Good communication and planning beforehand helps keep the process simple and easy to manage.

Why don’t we chat to see what we can do for you?

Google suspended my business.

And for almost seven weeks, one of my most reliable sources of new enquiries disappeared.

It started with what I thought was a simple address change.

Then came:
• a suspension
• a rejected appeal for “Deceptive Content”
• two verification videos
• a temporary return to Brisbane
• and a lot of patience

But the biggest lesson had very little to do with getting Google back.

It was realising how heavily I had come to depend on one marketing channel.

While Google was quiet, I started doing things differently — creating more intentional social content, plus much more...

And one of my first Newcastle customers?

She saw my van parked at the beach.

If you run any kind of local service business, I think there’s something in this story for you.
And here’s the question I’m left with:

If Google stopped sending you customers tomorrow morning, where would your next ten customers come from?

🪟 FAQ FRIDAY: Can you book just an exterior window clean?

Absolutely.

Not every window clean needs to be an inside-and-out job.

For some homeowners, the interior glass is still looking fine but the outside has picked up dust, salt, weather marks and general grime.

An exterior-only clean can be a great way to freshen everything up and keep your windows maintained between full cleans.

The service can simply be tailored to what your home actually needs.

If that's the service you're chasing, call me on 0491 150 888 or send me a text.

Well, I thought it was about time I introduced myself properly. 👋

I'm Duncan — the bloke behind McRae's Window Cleaning.

I've been cleaning windows since 1996, and after many years in Brisbane, Sharon and I have now brought McRae's to Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.

New chapter. Same window cleaner. Same standards.

Watch the reel through for a little of the story.

🌧️🪟 FAQ FRIDAY: Will rain ruin freshly cleaned windows?

This is one of those questions window cleaners hear all the time.

The good news is that rain itself isn’t usually what makes clean windows dirty.

It’s more often the dust, salt, pollen and grime already sitting on the glass and surrounding surfaces.

If the windows have been professionally cleaned, a normal shower of rain generally isn’t going to undo all that work.

Wind, dust and dirty rain can be another story — but don’t panic just because you see a few clouds gathering after your window clean!
