Staff Spotlight | Meet Jim Willard, Head of Systems & Innovation

From chemical engineer and professional baseballer to leading innovation at Pentacon, Jim’s career journey has been anything but ordinary.

With experience working alongside global organisations including Chevron, Boeing and Dow Chemical, Jim now focuses on making Pentacon smarter, faster and more efficient through technology, automation and AI.

One of his proudest achievements has been connecting and streamlining Pentacon’s business systems, creating seamless workflows that help our teams operate more effectively every day.

What drives Jim? Solving problems, finding better ways of doing things, and seeing new ideas successfully adopted across the business.
When asked what he enjoys most about Pentacon, Jim points to the culture: a hardworking, supportive team where ideas are heard, innovation is encouraged, and everyone is working towards a common goal.

Outside of work, you'll find him spending time with family, following horse racing, and continuing to explore the exciting possibilities of AI.

Some of our team fronted up to the Mackay Marina Run on Sunday, taking on the Half Marathon and enjoying a great morning out on one of Mackay's premier community events.

We also had a few of our PentaMinis join in for the 3km Kids Dash, making it a fantastic family day for the Pentacon team.

It's always great to see our people getting involved in local events, challenging themselves, and supporting our community.

Well done to everyone who laced up their runners and crossed the finish line!

Pentacon Pty Ltd is on the hunt for a sharp, driven Estimating / Bid Manager to take ownership of our precontracts function across major infrastructure, mining, energy and resources projects nationwide.
This is not a back-office estimating role.

You’ll lead the full tender lifecycle - from opportunity assessment through to submission and handover - driving strategy, pricing, and commercial outcomes that directly impact project wins. You’ll mentor the estimating team, challenge methodologies, coordinate with operations and engineering, and ensure every bid stacks up commercially and operationally.

We’re looking for someone with strong onsite civil construction experience, solid estimating capability, and the leadership presence to lift performance across a team and influence stakeholders at every level. Brisbane-based

Pentacon is pleased to announce the award of a new project with the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing, and Regional and Rural Development (DNRMMRRD).

Pentacon has been engaged to undertake the remediation of the Tailings Storage Facility at the Mount Garnet Mine, marking another significant step in our continued growth across the resources and civil sectors.

We look forward to delivering this important remediation project and contributing to sustainable outcomes for the region.

A major remediation project is now underway at the abandoned Mount Garnet mine in Far North Queensland, helping reduce long-term environmental risks and improve outcomes for legacy mine sites across the state.

Regional Queensland company, Pentacon will deliver the works to safely remediate the site, supported by $7.7M from the Financial Provisioning Scheme (FPS).

This scheme helps ensure funding is available for rehabilitation if resource projects don’t meet their environmental obligations. The work at Mount Garnet is one of the largest funding allocations from the scheme to date, and a significant investment in restoring a legacy mine site.

The former Mount Garnet mine, which produced copper, zinc, lead and silver, was abandoned in 2024 following the liquidation of the previous operator. Remediation follows investigations that identified no economic mineral resource in the tailings.

Works will continue through late 2026, with further remediation and revegetation planned into 2027/28, and will bring economic benefit to the broader Mount Garnet area.
