Master Builders Queensland has welcomed practical changes to Queensland’s application of the National Construction Code.

The changes include additional options for raised homes, sloping sites, step-free access, dwelling entrances and narrow residential lots.

These reforms are designed to address practical building challenges while continuing to support safety, accessibility and quality.

For homeowners, this is a positive reminder of why site-specific design is so important.

Every block is different. Its slope, orientation, access, planning requirements and surrounding environment should all influence the home designed for it.

🏡 A POSITIVE STEP TOWARDS SIMPLER HOME APPROVALS

Master Builders Queensland has welcomed the introduction of the new Queensland Housing Code, which is intended to provide clearer and more consistent design and siting rules for detached homes.

The Code covers important areas including:

🔹 Building heights and setbacks
🔹 Site coverage
🔹 Privacy requirements
🔹 Car parking
🔹 Private open space

Local councils can adopt the Code during a three-year transition period commencing from 1 September 2026.

While implementation will take time, Master Builders Queensland believes broader adoption could reduce red tape, improve productivity and provide greater certainty for Queensland’s housing industry.
