Considered planting at the design stage is so important! A well written short article on Matthew Cantwell's (Secret Gardens) approach to plant design articulates an approach which resonates with ours.

Garden lighting, by Definition.

Considered lighting doesn’t just illuminate a space — it brings depth.

Use light to highlight textural materials, verdant foliage and striking architecture. Create contrast and space between light and shade. Warm, low-level lighting can make outdoor spaces feel intimate, while planned shadows add movement and atmosphere.

The goal isn’t to light everything, it’s to celebrate what should be seen 🌿

Garden structure, by Definition.

The strongest garden spaces are built on balance. A concrete bench seat, steel planter and sculptural grass tree work together as one composition—each element complementing the next rather than competing for attention.

When structure, materials and planting are considered as a whole, the result is a space that feels both cohesive and timeless.

Atrium planting, by Definition.

Bringing greenery into the heart of a home transforms the way it feels.

Here, a Cyathea Cooperi creates height and structure, while a Heart Leaf Philodendron softens its trunk with lush, cascading foliage. Layers of shade-loving plants complete the garden, creating a living artwork that’s enjoyed from every room.

A great atrium isn’t about adding more plants—it’s about layering texture, form and height to make nature part of everyday life 🌿
