BASE PROJECT // HEADSPACE BRIBIE ISLAND

Headspace Bribie Island is designed to echo the island’s unique coastal and natural beauty. The design maximises the abundant natural light that pours into the building’s front, with spaces arranged to create an open, easy-to-navigate layout that enhances comfort, safety, and functionality.

Drawing inspiration from its beachside setting, the design features a calming palette of soft blues, greens, light timber, shades of grey, and soft whites, complemented by coastal accents. This aesthetic extends through the carefully chosen fixtures, fittings, and furniture, with greenery bringing a touch of nature indoors. The soft, neutral base palette harmonises with the headspace branding, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels welcoming and homely, ensuring everyone who visits feels comfortable and at ease.

headspace Lismore / After the February 2022 floods, headspace Lismore has found a new home within the Social Futures hub in the heart of town.

The design maximises space, natural light, and stunning views of Lismore's lush surroundings. With input from the community, the space reflects the natural environment and local culture, featuring the headspace ‘mind body spirit culture country artwork,’ soft furnishings from a local Aboriginal business, and room names honouring Bundjalung language.

The result is a warm, welcoming, and invigorating space that connects young people to essential services, their community, and their culture.

When designing a commercial office space, always prioritise functionality and flexibility. Create a layout that supports different work styles—think open-plan areas for collaboration, quiet zones for focused tasks, and versatile breakout spaces for informal meetings.

Incorporate natural light wherever possible, and use a neutral base palette with strategic pops of colour to energise the environment without overwhelming it. Don't forget to add biophilic elements like plants and natural materials to enhance well-being and productivity.

We are extremely proud and excited to announce we are supporting the Stride Outside fundraising challenge this September.

Recent statistics reveal that 8.5 million Australians—43% of the population—have experienced a mental illness at some point in their lives. Research consistently highlights the critical role of outdoor activities in enhancing mental health, offering benefits such as stress reduction, mood improvement, increased creativity, and better cognitive function. These benefits extend into the workplace, where improved mental health can lead to increased productivity, reduced absenteeism, and a more positive work environment.

Ben Hannon, Managing Director at Base says, "When the Stride Outside concept landed on my desk, I was excited to get involved with the challenge. We’ve partnered with Stride for 4 years now and we really value the great work they do for mental health in the community. Looking after the mental wellbeing of our employees is really important in our industry. There are many safety risks with what we do. Ben and Jason on site handover of the new headspace Hurstville 💚

We were thrilled to design and build the new headspace centre in Hurstville, Sydney for our valued client, Stride. The centre is bright, fun, and welcoming, with a contemporary, urban, and eclectic design. Inspired by the feedback from staff and the youth advisory group, we created spaces that are engaging and inviting, reflecting the wonderfully diverse community. The result is a lively and vibrant centre that feels like a true hub for all who visit.

When designing mental health spaces, use calming and soothing colours like soft blues, greens, and earthy tones. These hues can reduce anxiety and create a sense of tranquility, promoting a more relaxed and comforting environment for users.

Pops of brighter colours can be strategically placed to energise and uplift, but always balanced to avoid overstimulation. The right colour palette can make a significant difference in how people feel and interact within the space.

BASE PROJECT // headspace Indooroopilly

This project for Open Minds was specifically designed and constructed for the headspace Indooroopilly Centre.

This space embraces a warm and welcoming vibe, featuring a subtle base palette of timber, grey, white, and hints of black. The soft and homely feel is beautifully accented by the bright branding colours of headspace, which are cleverly incorporated through signage and soft furnishings. The result? A space that’s not only inviting but also instantly recognisable as a headspace Centre.

Spatial planning was a key focus, maximising natural light from the existing windows while accommodating numerous consult rooms and essential amenities. Design elements like VJ paneling, ball lights, and timber-look flooring further enhance the relaxed, homely atmosphere of the centre.

We’re proud to have delivered a space that supports the important work of headspace and provides a comforting environment for the community.
