CELEBRATING THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PROJECTS 🎉 After a big year on site and in the office, we took some time to come together and celebrate the people behind the work at our Hawthorne Civil End-of-Year party.

It was a chance to step away from projects, share a few laughs, and say thank you to our team for their effort, commitment, and the team attitude they bring every day.

The work we deliver is only possible because of the people who show up, back each other, and take pride in what they do.

A great night with a great team – and a fitting way to wrap up a huge year.

HAWTHORNE CIVIL'S TOY & GIFT DRIVE 🎁 This year, our team rallied behind the Salvation Army Christmas Toy & Gift Appeal, giving generously to support families doing it tough and helping to bring joy to households who may otherwise go without.

Every donation helps ensure no one is left without something special this Christmas.

A special thank you to our CEO, Enda O'Brien, whose leadership and kindness helped us take this even further. Hawthorne Civil donated an additional $1,000 worth of toys, adding to contributions made by our team.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support the The Salvation Army Australia and the incredible work they do in communities across the country.

Thank you to everyone who got involved – your kindness truly matters.

GROWING MORE THAN A MO | This Movember, our teams across offices and sites rallied behind an important cause.

Movember shines a light on three critical issues affecting men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and su***de prevention. These topics matter deeply within our industry, and they matter to us as an employer committed to the wellbeing of our crews.

Throughout November, our people stepped up in all kinds of ways:
👨🏻‍🦰 Growing some impressive (and questionable) moustaches to spark conversations
🔥 Hosting BBQs on site to bring teams together
🗣 Delivering talks and toolbox discussions about why Movember exists and why speaking up matters

Change happens when teams feel supported enough to speak up and look out for one another.

We know that strong teams are built on more than capability. They thrive in workplaces where wellbeing is understood, encouraged, and taken seriously.

If we want to shift the culture around men’s health, it starts with each of us being willing to check in, start a conversation, and make space for support.

We’re proud of our teams for leading by example, raising awareness, and reminding us that looking after each other is part of the job every single day.

FEATURE ARTICLE | Hawthorne Civil is proud to be featured in a new article from the Queensland Major Contractors Association (QMCA), with our General Manager, Zdravko Cvetanoski, sharing insights on delivering major civil infrastructure in Queensland.

The piece covers key challenges and opportunities across Queensland’s pipeline, from workforce capability and resourcing to the value of strong delivery partnerships. These are themes reflected in this year’s Queensland Major Projects Pipeline Report (QMPPR), which we’re proud to support as a sponsor.

It’s a forward-looking perspective as Queensland prepares for a period of unprecedented infrastructure growth.

FROM PLANS TO SPANS 🌉 One of our standout achievements on the Coffs Harbour bypass project has been delivery of a safety deflection wall for the bridge over the North Coast Railway line.

The wall is a 46-metre-long and 5.3 metre high structure, reinforced with more than 200 tonnes of steel and more than 390m³ of concrete, built within a very tight footprint alongside the North Coast Railway corridor.

To overcome the challenge, we:
- Prefabricated and welded five massive steel cages on the ground (each weighing up to 32 tonnes) to minimse time working at heights and within the rail corridor
- Installed the cages using a 250-tonne slew crane
- Built the wall in three pours, with the first one placing 190m3 of concrete in just six hours using dual pumps and advanced vibration techniques through dense reinforcing.

These solutions didn’t just get the job done, they saved time, reduced risk, and upheld our highest standards of quality and safety.

Every single team member has played a role in turning the engineering plans into a piece of infrastructure that will serve the Coffs Harbour for decades to come.

We’re innovating on this project for the NSW Government and Ferrovial Gamuda JV.

YAWALPAH BRIDGE PROJECT UPDATE FOR City of Gold Coast| Major progress has been made at Yawalpah, with the 2x span, 3-lane wide road bridge and approach retaining walls now substantially complete.

Looking ahead, we’re ramping up delivery on the expanded retaining wall scope, a significant variation that extends the program into 2026.

This milestone reflects not only the success of works underway but also the adaptability and capability of our team to deliver on evolving project needs without losing momentum.

🎥 This short video gives a glimpse of how the bridge is taking shape; a testament to the skill of our people and the collaborative effort driving progress on site.

THREE REASONS TO PAUSE | Today marks a significant overlap, with Mental Health Month, Queensland Mental Health Week, and World Mental Health Day all overlapping to shine a spotlight on the importance of mental wellbeing.

At Hawthorne Civil, we know that our greatest strength is our people, and that means looking after them both on and off the job. Mental health and wellbeing aren’t just checkboxes; they’re part of how we build a stronger and safer team.

We’re proud to foster a culture where open conversations are encouraged, support is available, and no one has to face challenges alone. Through our Employee Assistance Program, our team and their families can access free, confidential counselling whenever they need it. Taking that first step to seek help can make all the difference.

So we’re shining a light on this important cause by sharing messages from our own people; real reminders about what mental wellbeing means to them and why it’s so vital.
