They don't make them like they used to.
And in our case, that’s a good thing.
Meet Steve and his 24-year-old Formosa.
Steve recently picked up this old girl in pristine condition for her age. Living locally, he reached out to us to find out how he could now set her up to run an outboard.
We invited him into the factory — partly to help, but also because we couldn’t pass up the chance to get a closer look ourselves.
Built in 2002 as a prototype for an inboard setup, this boat comes from a very different era of Formosa Marine.
Back then, we were building pressed aluminium boats.
Today, we build heavy-duty Plate Aluminium Boats using advanced 3D design, CNC manufacturing and modern welding technology.
A lot has changed.
But there were a few things that really caught our attention.
The paintwork is unreal.
24 years on, the condition of the original paint is seriously impressive. And there's an even better connection — the same painter who painted this boat back in 2002 is still painting Formosa's today.
He was there to inspect the boat himself.
Then there's the construction.
Standing beside Steve’s 24-year-old Formosa and looking at the original frames and stringers, one thing is pretty clear:
