Far From Green Mum of 3 building a backyard micro farm in Brisbane. Turning 450m² into fruit, veg, chickens and chaos.

Sharing the wins, the fails and everything in between.
🌱 Bananas, mangoes, rainbow eggs and too many plants.

Nothing says “I’ll just quickly do this one little garden job” like ending up needing another trip to Bunnings 😂🌱

Apparently my Brisbane backyard micro farm runs on sunshine, questionable decisions and an alarming number of Bunnings receipts.

BRB… I need supplies. Again. 😂

🎃 Apparently, my pumpkin didn’t get the memo that winter was supposed to slow it down! 😂

Not only did it survive winter, but we’ve already got our first pumpkin growing!

If you’re heading into pumpkin planting season, NOW is the time to get those seeds ready! 🌱

Gardening in subtropical Brisbane certainly keeps me guessing!

Who else has a pumpkin vine that just refuses to quit? 😂👇

The girls have been showing off! 🥚🩵

Fresh eggs and a little rainbow in the nesting box. Never gets old! 😍

Which colour is your favourite?

WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED TO MY CAPSICUM?! 🌶️😂

Well, that’s certainly not what I expected to find in my garden today!

I thought I’d cut this rather questionable-looking capsicum open and investigate. Now I have even MORE questions. 🤦🏼‍♀️

This is the reality of growing your own food. Some days you get beautiful harvests, and other days your garden produces something that looks like a science experiment.

So, gardening brains, HELP ME OUT! 🧠🌱

Have you seen this happen before? What do you think caused it?

Growing food certainly keeps me entertained!

Follow Far From Green | Garden App as I attempt to turn 450m² of available space into a productive little food jungle while raising three kids. What could possibly go wrong? 😂

Four apple varieties. One tree. 🍎🌳

I still think multi-grafted fruit trees are one of the coolest ways to squeeze more food into a small growing space.

This little apple tree has Granny Smith, Red Lady, Anna and Golden Dorsett all growing together, and now we’ve got flowers AND tiny apples forming. 😍

For anyone trying to grow more food without having endless space, trees like this just make sense. One footprint, multiple varieties, and hopefully a much bigger harvest over time.

I planted this one less than two years ago and it is already starting to earn its place in the garden.

Now the real question is… which apple variety will produce first? 👀🍏

Another great purchase from Fruit Salad Tree Company ☺️

I may have underestimated this mulberry tree… 😂🌱

This is exactly why I love growing food at home. One minute you’re planting a little fruit tree and hoping for a handful of berries, the next you’re standing underneath it wondering how on earth you’re going to keep up with the harvest.

My mulberry tree is absolutely loaded right now, and we’re picking fresh mulberries constantly.

I’m trying to grow as much food as possible for my family from around 450m² of usable growing space, and fruit trees like this are proving just how productive a small backyard garden can actually be.

Some things work beautifully.
Some things completely fail.
And apparently some things decide to produce enough fruit to become a full-time job. 😂

If you grow mulberries, tell me… what do you actually DO with all of them?!

Save this if you’re planning a backyard food garden, and follow along as I keep pushing this little micro farm to see how much food we can really grow.

🥔 Growing potatoes in pots might officially be my favourite way to grow them.

See this sad, crispy, completely finished-looking plant? 😂
That’s exactly what I wanted to see because it meant my Royal Blue potatoes were ready to harvest.

I planted just six potatoes into this big pot and somehow all of THESE were hiding underneath. 😍🥔

I’ve grown potatoes a few different ways, but pots are winning for me.

They’re easier to look after when the weather decides to do whatever it wants, I can control the growing conditions a little better, and harvesting is SO much easier than digging through a garden bed trying not to spear half the crop with a fork. 😂

And honestly, tipping into a pot and finding potato after potato is ridiculously satisfying.

Now I need to weigh this lot and see exactly what those six potatoes turned into 👀

Would you grow potatoes in pots or straight in the ground?
