We had to change out some downlight drivers in a restaurant to allow the lights to be automated and controlled via an Ipad.

Outdoor lighting should help you use the space — not make the backyard visible from the moon. 😂

Think entry lights, pathways, steps, entertaining areas and sensors where they are genuinely useful.

A well-planned lighting layout can improve safety and atmosphere without overdoing it.

Quick smoke alarm check 👇

Can you answer YES to all five?

1️⃣ Do you know how old your smoke alarms are?
2️⃣ Are they photoelectric?
3️⃣ Is there one in every bedroom?
4️⃣ Do you have the required hallway/storey coverage?
5️⃣ Are the required alarms interconnected?

If you answered “not sure” to any of them, add a smoke alarm check to your pre-2027 list.

No scare tactics. No guessing. Just get clear on what you have and what your home needs before the deadline.

⚡ ASK NICK: What does “interconnected” actually mean?

It’s simple: if one required smoke alarm activates, the other interconnected alarms activate too.

That matters because a fire may start away from where you’re sleeping. A connected system helps spread the warning through the home.

Queensland’s final smoke alarm deadline for existing homes is 1 January 2027.

If you’re looking at your ceiling thinking, “I have no idea whether ours are interconnected” — you’re definitely not the only one. We can check your setup and explain what, if anything, needs changing.

🚨 Queensland homeowners: 1 January 2027 is getting close.

By then, all existing private homes, townhouses and units in Queensland need compliant interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms.

That means more than simply having “a smoke alarm” in the house. Required alarms need to be:
✅ Photoelectric
✅ Interconnected
✅ In every bedroom
✅ In connecting hallways
✅ On every storey
✅ Within their required service life and correctly positioned

Not sure what you currently have? August is a much better time to check than late December.
