The fiddle-leaf fig (Ficus lyrata) is a popular indoor tree featuring very large, heavily veined and glossy violin-shaped leaves that grow upright on a sleek trunk.

A fiddle-leaf fig is perfect as a focal point of a room if you can situate it in a floor-standing container where the plant is allowed to grow to at least 6 feet tall. (Most indoor specimens reach around 10 feet tall.) It's a fairly fast grower and can be potted at any point in the year if you're like most gardeners acquiring a nursery plant to keep indoors.

Most commonly known as the ‘Angel Wing’ plant for its unique, stand-out patterning, this house plant variety is less common than others and makes an awesome talking piece for any urban jungle.

Angel Wing is a tuberous plant which means the leaves will die back and it will go dormant. Once the plant has died back, you can save the tubers and put them in a bag to replant when it warms up again or you can leave them in the soil.

Cowboy or Candle Cactus - this is a big one I snapped recently - very impressive!

They're are very well suited to Queensland's climate - as long as the soil is well-drained they will grow happily in a harsh windy environment, on a verandah or even inside a house.

They're fantastic potted specimens, survive extreme neglect and have very deep dark green, upright, neat and elegant form.

Being so easy to look after, they're starting to appear in desert style gardens around Brisbane which seem to be gaining popularity.

**Some people react to the milky sap (when the plant is damaged) so gloves should be worn and avoid eye contact at all times.

A Pink Mimosa flowering early for spring 🌸.

Pink Mimosa is a small, soft foliaged, deciduous tree with delicate pink puffy flowers which are produced all throughout summer.

It is marginally frost hardy and makes a good feature in medium to larger gardens. The Pink Mimosa produces intensely pink flowers, can withstand frosts very well and attracts bees and butterflies to your garden.

Soil: Any well drained soil.

Maintenance: Mulch and water well in summer - feed with Blood and Bone once a year in spring or summer.

Diseases: Borers - pry out with a fine wire - or blast them out with a fine pressure water jet.
