If you’re like many Queenslanders tackling DIY jobs around the homes this Easter, be sure to be safe and never, ever attempt any electrical work.

Not only can you severely injure or kill yourself or a family member in an instant, you can face fines of up to $40,000.

Dodgy electrical work has been known to start plenty of house fires and there’s a good chance your insurance will not cover you if it’s found to be the cause.

So please leave any electrical work to qualified licensed electrical contractors and stay safe this Easter.

暑假來囉~請注意用電安全,保護好家裡的小朋友們喔!

Electricity can be a big risk for little people! We’ve published some resources to help parents and teachers protect kids from electrical risks.

1. Install safety switches on all circuits

2. Immediately replace any damaged power points, wall switches, electrical equipment or frayed leads.

3. Install dummy plugs on all power points and
power boards.

4. Never overload power points by plugging in
multiple double adapters.

5. Keep electrical equipment away from bathtubs and sinks that children may use.

6. Keep power cords and leads away from little
hands and mouths.

7. Teach older children how to plug in and
unplug safely.

8. Look for electrical equipment that has the
Regulatory Compliance
Mark (RCM).

9. Only use a licensed electrician to do
electrical work in your home.

Got an electric scooter or bike for Christmas or to commute to school or work this year? Here are some tips to keep them electrically safe.

🔋 Use the charger specified by the scooter or bike manufacturer and always buy from a reputable, Australian seller

🔋 Let batteries cool down before re-charging – high temperatures can shorten their lifespan and increase the risk of fire

🔋 Ensure your batteries aren’t getting knocked around or damaged when in use or in storage – this can increase the risk of fire

🔋 Always charge your scooter or bike away from combustible materials like paper, clothes, furniture and curtains

🔋 Always unplug your charger once your scooter or bike has finished charging

🔋 Don’t leave charging batteries unattended or charging overnight

🔋Install interconnected smoke alarms where your scooter or bike is charged
