Have you ever compared your favourite cosmetic or perfume scent with nature?

At last summer's edible flower workshops I created a full sensory experience with the chance to compare the scent of a range of essential oils to the actual edible flower plant - including one of my favourites rose geranium.

Its hard to explain the sweet intensity of gently rubbing a rose geranium's leaves and releasing its natural oils.

I was more than a little excited to walk into the drying room during the week and experience the first subtle hints of the orris developing its scent. Its been curing for four months and has another 20 months to go but this was a pretty momentous milestone!

Delicate as lace in looks, tough as old boot leather in temperament. The elderflower is still flowering at the end of May and the young plants I'm nurturing for a new hedge are thriving. Lots of lovely elderflower cordial next summer 🤞

The tiny daughter plants from summer's orris harvest have settled into the nursery bed for winter and are already putting on new leaves. By spring they will have grown enough to go out in the growing beds.
