What happens when you really look closely at a favourite artwork?

A bit like nature journalling, you start to see the minute details, the texture of the brush strokes and the colours which aren't apparent at first glance.

This is the philosophy behind the impressionist inspired edible flower collections that I'm working on.

Creating garden beds that will be impressionist inspired palettes. All beautiful. All edible.

Another beautiful plate from Curtis, this time of Iris pallida.

It seems that referring to pallida as Dalmatian Iris goes back to at least the early 1800s, but what was really interesting was that there was no reference to it being used as orris.

So while Iris pallida is the most sought after form of orris today, in Curtis’s writings only Iris florentina is recognised as a source of orris root.

All winter I've been growing on these little rosemaries, protecting them from frost every night with an old sheet, ready to plant out in spring. So it's a little exciting to see one preparing to flower.

I just need the plovers to finish nesting so I can get back in the paddock and prepare the beds.......
