The reality of building a custom home... 👀

TBH this bottle neck palm tree made it worth it! 🌴✨

123 days until Christmas. No pressure. 🎄

This Riverstone build isn’t ready for the turkey just yet but that’s the thing about a custom home. The frame stage looks like chaos and then it comes together faster than you’d think.

Every brick laid, every frame stood, every trade sequenced all moving toward the day the keys go in the door (and yes, eventually, the day you can host Christmas).

Building a home is a journey. The mess is temporary. The home is forever.

📌 Save this if your build is a little behind the festive schedule.

It’s the part nobody romanticises the messy middle of a custom build. No styled kitchen, no golden-hour façade.
But every wall holds a decision made months ago and slowly, a house becomes the home a family will live in.
This is the part we’re most proud of. Because anyone can show the reveal the real craft is everything that happens before it.
📌 Save this if you’re dreaming about building.

A collaboration with AC STONE

This is what warm minimalism looks like when it’s done properly: natural oak joinery, full-height stone and brushed tapware. A calm, considered palette that’ll still feel right in 20 years.

AC STONE — Sunset

Used across the kitchen to bring subtle movement and warmth while keeping the overall palette light and refined.

The lesson:
Don’t choose your benchtop in isolation. Your stone, joinery, flooring and lighting should all be considered together. AC STONE

THE JOINERY

polytec — Ecru Oak

A warm timber tone was selected to soften the kitchen and create a more timeless feel.

Joinery: Elegant Joinery

Ikon tapware

The hardware was kept refined and understated so it complemented rather than competed with the stone and joinery.

What makes a custom kitchen feel expensive? It’s rarely just one finish.

THE LIGHTING

Beacon Lighting Lighting — Hartley 8 Light, 1.5m Linear Pendant

The pendant adds a sculptural element above the island while bringing warmth into the kitchen. Beacon Trade

THE COOKING ZONE

Miele 90cm gas cooktop appliances

Because a beautiful kitchen still needs to work beautifully.

The layout and appliance selection were considered around how the kitchen would actually be used.

Buying land for your dream home? 🚨

Don’t sign the contract before checking these 3 things.

Finding the right block for a custom home in Sydney is about far more than the street, the size and the price. The block itself decides what you can build and what it’ll cost you to build it.
Before you buy, check:

1. Site constraints
Easements, slope, drainage, bushfire and flood considerations all affect what you can build and how much it costs to get out of the ground.

2. Orientation & neighbours ☀️
Where does the sun move across the block? What will you look at from your living areas? Could existing or future neighbours affect your privacy and light?

3. What you can actually build
Don’t assume the block will fit the home you’ve imagined. Planning controls, setbacks, site conditions and the block’s dimensions all shape your floorplan and your build.
The biggest mistake we see? People fall in love with the block before they understand the block.

Turning an empty room into a considered space is about more than just filling it. It’s about proportion, layout, lighting, materials and how the space will actually be used.

When designing a custom home in Sydney, the furniture, joinery and finishes should all work together from the beginning not be an afterthought once the build is finished.

Save this for your future custom home build.

WHAT WE SELECTED vs HOW IT TURNED OUT 🤍

A material palette can look beautiful on a sample board but the real test is how everything comes together once it’s installed.

For this custom home kitchen, we selected:

• Polytec Ecru Oak joinery — warm, natural and timeless
• AC Stone Sunset engineered stone — adding subtle warmth and movement to the benchtop and splashback

Together, the timber tones and stone create a kitchen that feels considered, warm and effortlessly cohesive.

This is why we always recommend viewing your kitchen joinery, benchtop and splashback samples together before making your final selections. Lighting, surrounding materials and scale can completely change how a finish looks.

Save this for your custom home build especially if you’re choosing your kitchen finishes.

From sample to finished space.

We selected Cafe Oak by polytec for its warm, natural tone and seeing it come to life in the finished space is even better than we imagined.

A considered selection, brought to life.
