Buchanan Turf Supplies

Here at Buchanan Turf, Brent loves growing grass. Mowing it? Not quite as much 😅

A little throwback to last year when Husqvarna Australia visited the farm to chat about how we use their Automowers and why they've become such a valuable part of keeping our paddocks and display plots looking their best.

(Office Lady Sarah also gives them a big tick of approval. Her personal Automower is named "Josh".)

Hear from Joe Rogers and Brett Redman, two turf experts, as they sh...

Need a new lawn before Christmas? Now's a good time to start planning! 🎄

While we don't install turf ourselves, we work with some fantastic local landscapers and turf installers who we know and trust - and we're happy to recommend the right person depending on your job.

Whether you need someone to take care of the whole project, from ground preparation through to laying your new lawn, or you simply need a hand getting the turf down, give us a call and we can point you in the right direction.

We've spoken with our landscapers and installers and there are still some spots available in the lead-up to Christmas (but be warned, they'll start filling up as we get closer!)

So, if "new lawn before Christmas" is on the to-do list, now's the time to get the ball rolling. Give us a call on 02 4930 0159 and we'll help you work out the best turf and installer for your job.

Spring has sprung at Buchanan Turf 🌱 (and so have the workplace hazards).

Our resident plovers have very conveniently decided that the middle of a turf paddock is an excellent place to set up camp, so we're currently mowing around their chosen piece of real estate. And before anyone suggests asking them politely to relocate... please refer to second image. Those little wing spurs are no joke.

Not pictured are the magpies, who have also resumed their annual campaign of swooping the boys while they work.

So if you've ever wondered what turf farming in Australia looks like in spring - this is it!

The latest Good Lawn Guide from Buchanan Turf is out!

We put these guides together to take some of the guesswork out of looking after your lawn. Rather than generic lawn advice, we base them on what we're actually seeing here on the farm and around the Hunter - because what your lawn needs depends a lot on our local conditions and the time of year.

This edition covers getting your lawn ready for spring, including when to start feeding, how soil temperature comes into it, getting ahead of summer weeds and choosing the right products for what your lawn actually needs.

We've also included our new Sprayer Calibration Guide to help make sure you're applying liquid lawn products correctly. And, if you do need to stock up for spring, we're offering 10% off selected lawn care products when you spend $100+ throughout spring!

As temperatures rise, your lawn will start waking up - but soil temperature matters more than the calendar. Here on the farm, we wait for soil temperatures to reach around 13.5°C first thing in the morning before starting our spring lawn care.Check yours with a probe or meat thermometer. No thermome...

Does it really matter where you buy your turf from?

Well... we might be a little biased, but we think it does! When you buy from Buchanan Turf, you're not just getting turf - you're getting decades of experience, local knowledge and a team that's still here to help long after your new lawn has been delivered.

From choosing the right turf in the first place, to installation advice, seasonal lawn care and those "what on earth is my grass doing?" questions years down the track - we're only a phone call away.

But don't just take our word for it... Jason also has some thoughts.

🌱 FUN FACT FRIDAY 🌱

Have you driven past the farm lately and noticed some of our paddocks are looking a little... purple?

The turf isn't dying, it's actually just it's winter coat! During winter, we deliberately let our turf grow a little longer than usual. When we get a good frost, it's those longer leaf tips that take the brunt of it, causing the purple/brown colour you can see across the paddock.

When you buy turf from us, we mow just before harvest to take off that frost affected growth and reveal the greener turf underneath. So while our paddocks might look a little worse for wear after a frosty Hunter Valley morning, the turf underneath is doing just fine.

Follow along for more lawn tips, turf facts and advice from the farm.

We've tried for weeks to do a "Meet the Team" post for Bruce but he refuses to participate. (See comments for my latest attempt).

Bruce is an expert at dodging the camera, but he's finally been caught in action unloading another delivery. Shout out to Green Envy Landscape & Garden Services for the footage - though this is likely as much screen time as we're going to get!

If you really want to meet the famous Bruce, you'll just have to order some turf. 🌱🚛

(Fair warning: he's every bit as lovely as everyone says he is.)
