FEBRUARY is a key transition month — a great time for planting autumn and winter vegetables before the weather cools and I am reaching for my super duper seed storage case (got it from Spotlight and LOVE IT!! I'm so organised).
A small amount of time sowing seeds or planting seedlings in the next two weeks while the soil is still warm can produce a diversity of nutrient dense, tasty vegetables throughout mid Autumn and Winter.
• Keep yourself in LEAFY GREENS by continuing to sow those varieties you love like lettuce, silverbeet, rocket, spinach and Asian greens and I love Mustards!
• BRASSICA's love the warmth of late summer to grow and then produce their crop in the coolness of autumn. Put in seeds and/or seedlings of broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and kale.
• Sow root vegetables such as BEETROOT, CARROT and FENNEL now and every few weeks until end of March to keep a constant supply.
• ALLIUMS can go in now: spring onions and leeks.
• I also put in some SNO PEAS to get excited to harvest in a few months.
• PARSLEY sown now will provide you leaves throughout winter. Re sow CORIANDER too.
Note some of the seed suppliers I favour! Eden Seeds, Transition Farm, Southern Harvest, Mr Fothergill, The Seed Collection and seed I have saved myself.
