A garden for all seasons, perched high on Saddleback Mountain.

Gabion walls terrace the hillside, creating level spaces across the slope. A boules court doubles as a pathway, linking Mediterranean-inspired planting with a firepit circle and a 20m pool overlooking Kiama Downs and the Pacific.

We chose a blend of Mediterranean species and Australian natives for year-round beauty and resilience. Built to withstand wind, wildlife, summer heat and periods of heavy rain inundation, it’s a garden designed for both endurance and elegance.

A cosy corner for fireside chats within our project in Huntingdale, Berry. Enclosed by the softness of Cascade Lilly Pilly (Syzygium 'Cascade'), and with seating set within raised curves filled with deco granite, the stunning corten steel firepit takes centre stage.

Pool fences... often the most challenging part of garden design - not just "fitting them in", but making them look good - or even better - feel like they belong. Australia is easily the most stringent country when it comes to pool fence requirements - a great thing if you ask me.

Speaking of challenges in garden design - some clients see slopes as huge problems, but I personally love them. They allow "forced" creativity, and also often are excellent at providing solutions - for example - "hiding" a pool fence.

Here in Kangaroo Valley, we came up with the solution to have the top of the pool fence at the same height as the pool water line (or another way to put it - the bottom of the fence 1.2m below the pool). This unobstructed view of the pool area is what it's all about. Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Foerster' (more fun to say out loud than to spell!) is planted in front of and behind the timber battens - to eventually completely camouflage the fence. It'll be the best of both worlds - beautiful views + the comfort of safety - can't wait for the plants to grow in!
