Less than two years on, the growth at our Mittagong project has been incredible (scroll down to our post from October 25, 2024 to see the day the plants were installed). We designed this internal courtyard as a 360° living centrepiece - a garden that could be viewed from almost every room while bringing natural light, greenery and a sense of calm inside.

The brief combined elements of modern Australian planting with a subtle Japanese influence. A circular corten steel water feature forms the focal point, while informal stepping stones weave through densely planted garden beds of ferns, tractor seat plants, feature boulders and weeping Japanese maples. The maples in particular are now putting on a spectacular autumn display, their vivid red foliage creating a striking contrast against the clean architectural lines of the home.

Our wonderful client has nurtured this garden beautifully, and the home is now on the market, with Highland Southern Highlands and Anita Roelevink Real Estate

A few different angles of a generous firepit area beneath a mature camphor laurel, layers of lush planting, and a series of connected outdoor rooms designed to make the most of this large garden.

The existing struggling lawn beneath the tree will be transformed into a decomposed granite firepit zone, surrounded by shade-tolerant planting and anchored by a circular corten steel firewood stacker. A sandstone retaining wall will help define spaces, provide casual seating and create a more usable, level lawn area.

Designed to complement the home's distinctive 1960s Mid-Century architecture, the planting will combine bold foliage, seasonal colour and strong structural forms to create a garden that feels both relaxed and striking. A mix of Australian natives and carefully selected exotics adds year-round interest, while the garden will unfold as a series of distinct spaces connected through the improved pool area, changing levels and expansive lawn beyond.

Just a year after the house construction started, and the gardens at our Serenity Ridge project in Berry are really starting to come into their own.

What began as a design for the pool house surrounds, kitchen garden and courtyards has grown into a collection of connected outdoor spaces that feel relaxed, established and naturally tied in with the architecture. The planting is filling out nicely, softening the built elements and creating the atmosphere we had in mind from the beginning.

It’s always great to come back to a project and see how a garden changes and grows over time.

Stunning autumn light hitting the Cotinus ‘Grace’ (Smokebush) - the rich burgundy foliage has become a real focal point through the centre of this garden, surrounded by softer perennial planting below.

Over recent months, the Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ has added ever-changing injections of colour, contrasting against the corten steel that anchors the garden.

The poured-in-place floating concrete stairs bring a clean, sculptural element within the dense planting.

Visited one of our Saddleback Mountain projects again today, a little over a year on from completion, and it’s settled in beautifully 🌵🌾

Inspired by minimalist Californian / Palm Springs style, the tough, low-maintenance planting has filled out around the deco granite pathways, corten steel steps and crisp white pebble garden beds - softening the space while keeping that clean, architectural feel.

Large weathered boulders help anchor the garden into the surrounding landscape, while the restrained planting palette focuses on texture, form and contrast throughout the seasons.

Designed to be striking, practical, and easy to maintain long term.
