We recently attended the Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards, where Nexus Built was named a finalist in the Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion category.

As first-time entrants, we were proud to see Nexus Built recognised alongside some outstanding local organisations.

Many of the finalists in our category deliver services where diversity and inclusion are central to what they do every day. As a residential building company, we were a little different.

Our purpose is building great homes, not delivering Diversity & Inclusion services. Many of the finalists were recognised for the services they provide. We were recognised for how we run our business.

We were proud to represent the trades and construction industry in this category and hope it helps demonstrate that creating inclusive workplaces isn't limited to large organisations or businesses working directly in this space.

Congratulations to Flying Colours Education, winners of the Diversity & Inclusion category, for the important work they do providing learning support for children with diverse and neurodivergent needs.

A special congratulations also to Aussie Aunties, winners of the People's Choice Award. Their volunteer program connecting international doctors with local volunteers is a fantastic initiative, and they were very deserving winners.

We were also pleased to see Mardi Lee from ReNewy Living (Mardi) recognised for the work she's doing in the sustainability space. Sustainability is something we think about in our own projects, so it was great to see that work acknowledged.

Congratulations also to Matt and the team at MT Design Collective, finalists in the Excellence in Small Business category. We work alongside Matt and the team on many of the homes we build and can personally attest to the professionalism, creativity and expertise they bring to the building design process.

Thank you to everyone who voted for Nexus Built in the People's Choice Award, and congratulations to all finalists and winners.

Lake Macquarie is a wonderful place to grow a business, and the support and camaraderie on display throughout the evening was a great reminder of that.

One of the things we're most proud of at Nexus Built is our people.

We've always believed that a good business starts with good people, and over the years we've been lucky to build a team with different backgrounds, ages and life experiences.

Recently, we were recognised as a finalist at the 2026 Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards in the Diversity & Inclusion category.

For us, diversity and inclusion isn't just about our team. It's about how we work with our clients, our subcontractors, our suppliers and the wider community. We want people to feel respected, heard and valued, whether they're working alongside us or building with us.

Creating opportunities, supporting apprentices, backing women in construction, being flexible when life happens and treating people with respect are all things we care about and try to put into practice every day.

A big thank you to John, Dom, Dan, Jaymee, Zac, Hannah and Kai, and of course little Chilli.

This recognition reflects the culture they've helped create at Nexus Built.

The quality of our work comes down to the people behind it, and we're proud of the team we've built.

Thank you Alite Creative | Photo & Video for Local Businesses for the amazing images.
Thank you Newcastle Herald for the write up.
Thank you Lake Macquarie City Council and the Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards.

We’re almost at the finish line at Cooks Hill.

This one has been a joy from start to finish with amazing clients, thoughtful interior design by Katrina Newcastle Interior Design & Decoration, and architecture by the team at MtD MT Design Collective.

Our subbies brought their best every day and it really became one of those dream projects you love being part of.

Like any residential build, a few challenges popped up along the way, but everything was handled with calm heads and creative thinking.

We will be sharing the finished home and some interviews with key people from the project, so keep your eyes our website in the coming weeks.

There’s a nostalgic shift happening in Australian home design, and if you grew up in the 80s or 90s you’ll probably feel it straight away.

The warm timber and slate floors.
The textured brick.
The curves.
The indoor plants that sat in the same corner for years, usually a maidenhair fern that somehow survived anything.

All those little things that made a house feel familiar.

You could almost feel the textures of those homes just by looking at them, the brick, the timber, the patterned fabrics, and the plush or swirly carpet that showed up in so many lounge rooms.

🌿 What stands out now is how the modern versions of these ideas feel lighter.
The colours, the furniture, the materials, even the way the light sits in the room.
It has the comfort of what we remember, without the heaviness a lot of us grew up with.

Our latest blog looks at the design elements making a comeback and why so many people are leaning toward homes with warmth and character again.

🏡 You might even spot something from your childhood home and realise you wouldn’t mind seeing it in your own place now.

Nood Co published a project feature on their website about this Cooks Hill home last year, and we’re proud to see it shared as part of the bigger renovation journey we’ve completed with David & Julie over several years.

We’ve been working with David & Julie since 2021, delivering the building and project management works across their home, with the final stages completed in 2025.

Most recently, this included their stunning bathroom renovation, bringing to life the interior design by Cat Cossettini.

As you can see throughout the rest of the home, David & Julie have an incredible sense of style. Every space feels considered, calm, and completely personal to them.

We’re proud of the collaborative effort behind this project.

David & Julie have been exceptional clients to work with. They value quality, make thoughtful decisions, and their home is a true reflection of that.

Thank you David & Julie. It’s been a genuine pleasure working with you.
