Friday was a treat for us at Strike as we had a record number of female students in one Certificate II in Security Operations class.
It was very encouraging to see and made us proud. So much that we want to reinforce the message, if you are a women considering studying security please know, the industry needs you!
Female security guards have had an increase in visibility in recent years, especially. Many security companies are aware that women in the field often bring a different perspective and strong communication skills, cultural awareness and emotional intelligence, characteristics which are vital when de-escalating situations. When more women and people across varied genders, cultures and different backgrounds are included in these roles, security and safety becomes more inclusive, more successful and effective.
Thanks to the wide range of areas security guards work in, there is an abundance of job opportunities within the security industry. Not only can women be employed in any of the general security guard roles, but in various situations, it is actually a requirement to have female security officers available.
The outlook for women in security is overwhelmingly positive. The importance of diversity in security personnel is becoming increasingly recognised as more employers understand the range of skills women can bring to security.
