Smoke alarms save lives — but only when they’re installed correctly and working as they should.

We regularly come across alarms that are expired, poorly located, or not interconnected when they need to be. Simply pressing the test button once a year isn’t always enough to ensure they’ll perform when it really matters.

One of the most common issues we hear from clients is nuisance alarms caused by inferior products. Living in the sub-tropical climate of the Mid North Coast, high humidity can often trigger low-quality smoke alarms — usually at the worst possible times.

I’m often asked what’s actually involved in an electrical safety check, so here’s a quick breakdown.

A proper inspection isn’t just opening the switchboard and closing it again.

We check for:

Aged or inadequate circuit protection

• Exposed conductive parts

• Condition of consumer mains, including the point of attachment (the supply to your home)

We also assess the condition and compliance of:

Some imagery from a recently completed project in Sawtell we had the pleasure of delivering the electrical for.

People often ask what the term “safe home wiring” actually entails.

In essence, it means designing an electrical system that supports both safety and wellbeing — reducing unnecessary exposure to artificial fields, improving lighting quality, and prioritising long-term functionality over quick fixes.

In this home, our client fully embraced that approach.

Lighting was a major focus. The installation includes full-spectrum, flicker-free fittings with multi-mode settings that gradually reduce excessive blue light in the evening hours. We’re seeing a noticeable shift in awareness around lighting design — moving away from rows of harsh surface-mounted downlights and toward a more layered, intentional approach.

Directional spotlights, wall washers, step lights, and other mood-enhancing elements create a far more balanced and comfortable environment. It’s an area we genuinely enjoy working in, and we’re very pleased with the outcome here.

The home also features hardwired data cabling throughout, allowing stable and reliable internet connectivity wherever required — reducing reliance on wireless devices where practical.

Additionally, this home featured our Safe Zone EMF isolation switching system. This allows selected areas of the home to be conveniently isolated at night, while maintaining essential circuits — offering clients greater control over their electrical environment.

🔧 Rural Switchboard Upgrade & Workshop Fit-Out | Bellingen Region

We recently completed a large rural electrical upgrade for a client who needed power supplied to their new 12x7x5 metre workshop. The job required a lengthy underground sub-main run, coordinated alongside our earthworks contractor to ensure everything was completed safely and efficiently.

To bring the property up to compliance, we worked with our trusted Level 2 partners to carry out a main switchboard upgrade, complete with new metering and consumer mains.

🐸 During the decommissioning of the old, rusted switchboard, we found four frogs inside the enclosure — a reminder of how exposed rural equipment can be to possums, rodents, moisture, and other issues.

To ensure long-term reliability, we installed fully weatherproof equipment and enclosures, and used mechanically protected cabling throughout the project. We also installed a series of energy-efficient LED high bay lights, providing excellent coverage and a clean, even spread of light throughout the workspace — ideal for any task.

It was a rewarding workshop fit-out, and we’re proud of the final result.
