At the beginning of every school year I send a shout-out to boarding families.
My brothers and I went to boarding school, my niece and nephews are boarding now, and I work in a boarding school. So I’m all too aware of the experience of these kids and their families.
It's a difficult decision to send your child away for school. There are so many conflicting emotions.
There's excitement for them, knowing they will be exposed to amazing experiences and opportunities for growth that they might not get in their home town. At the same time, there is heartache in not having them with you, especially when they seem so young.
At the end of summer holidays, it's mainly heartache.
So for the next little while, keep an eye on your friends with kids in boarding. They will need some love, especially those going through it for the first time.
