Our team have installed a Root Barrier in conjunction with UPGI (under path growth inhibitor). Moisture trapped naturally under the driveway provided a good food source for a nearby Fig tree.

The driveway was removed exposing the network of tree roots hiding beneath. These roots were removed and UPGI was applied in the subgrade with a Root Barrier installed along the edge.

UPGI creates a zone under the structure which is outside the pH range that trees like to feed on. Roots in the this immediate area will not develop to damage the driveway. The roots instead will find a more suitable food source allowing them to support and feed the tree.

A great example of Root Growth from a recent trench our team excavated. This trench was 1200mm deep, and shows how far down the tree root system is. The tree in question was a Fig tree and is located 10m away from the Root Barrier. Our client had these roots enter their plumbing and exited through their shower drain.

Our team have been busy installing Root Barrier around a tennis court!

This method provides protection from nearby Roots growing under and uplifting the court, but also reduces the amount of moisture change underneath.

Pipe trench install.

This method is used to prevent roots from reaching pipes and services.

In conjunction with the Root Barrier, we use our UPGI product. This is made from a bentonite base with a blend of additional ingredients that creates a pH level disliked by roots.

By creating a slightly saline pH zone around the pipes, roots will seek moisture elsewhere, which keeps them safely away from your pipe infrastructure.

A Root Barrier Cut-Off Wall is not only a solution for tree root management, but to also minimise shrinkage of reactive soils.

By placing the cut-off wall around the structure, this will create an island effect and keep the change in moisture content to a minimum. The cut-off wall will effectively disconnect the tree from the moisture under and around the structure's slab/foundations.

The Root Barrier team have installed a cut-off wall within a new housing development to future proof, prior to the planting of trees.
